Ohio Dems wish Clinton would exit
Source: Cincinnati Enquirer

COLUMBUS – Hilllary Clinton might have won Ohio in March by 10 percentage points and a majority of the delegates, but there were few Ohio Democrats at the party’s state convention here Saturday who believe they will be working for her in the fall.

Even most of those who will be going to the Democratic National Convention in August pledged to vote for Clinton wish she would give up her campaign and allow Barack Obama to claim the nomination.

“It bothers me that she won’t give it up,” said former state representative Catherine Barrett of Forest Park, a delegate pledged to Clinton from the 1st Congressional District. “It’s exasperating.”

Many of the delegates – both Obama and Clinton – were in a ballrooom at the Columbus Convention Center

1. Not good when even your pledged delegates want you to give it up......
Hillary is threading on dangerous ground, and already has one leg kneedeep.

2. As HRC astutely pointed out, there is no rule that pledged delegates can't do their own thing
It would be hillarious if it were her own pledged delegates defecting that finally sent her out of the race.

What it will take. If those who already pledged to her tell her they are going over to Obama, maybe, just maybe she would get the hint! Of course I won't be holding my breath! :eyes:

9. Kos Diarist Clinton win down to 8.8 in Ohio Primary (w Provisionals)
Goodbye to Clinton's double digit Ohio win
by svotaw1992

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/5/9/19758/84424/696/512899

I didn't see this posted anywhere, but Ohio has official results up for the primary. The numbers have changed significantly.
* svotaw1992's diary :: ::
According to unofficial old results on RealClearPolitics.com and thegreenpapers.com, the race was won by Clinton 1,212,362 to 982,489 for a difference of 229,873 (or 10.4%).
The new official results are 1,259,620 to 1,055,769 for a difference of 203,851 (I had to add the districts up individually since I couldn't find statewide totals anywhere). That's a change of 26,022 toward Obama. The lead for Clinton is at a final margin of 8.8%, so I guess she didn't get that double digit victory in Ohio after all. Looks like there were lots of provisionals and absentee for Obama that didn't get counted on election night.
West Virginia is also coming up. With 660,000 resgistered Democrats and assuming a huge turnout, we get about 300,000 votes. If Clinton wins by 20%, that's a 60,000 vote margin. She's already lost a big chunk of that (26,000) with the Ohio official update. That's means the popular vote totals won't change much after West Virginia vote on Tuesday (for those who are even paying attention).
UPDATE
For those of you asking, there were just under 100,000 provisional ballots accepted out of 123,000 cast. So yes, this change is reasonable.
Wow... first time on the rec list. I was just passing time on a lazy Friday afternoon at work. I hope someone double checks my numbers. ;-)
(hattip to northhanger for verifying the numbers from the SoS site)

PS I haven't heard any comment on this on ER list servs-this was sent by MCM.

11. Bad news for Clinton when you consider Ohio Gov. Strickland was a very visible supporter.
Any time you saw Clinton campaigning in Ohio, Strickland was in the picture, too.

12. Misleading title
It gives the impression that Ohioans in general want Hillary out. It makes it seem as if a poll was conducted among the general population of this state, which is false.

18. What do you mean?
"It gives the impression that Ohioans in general want Hillary out. It makes it seem as if a poll was conducted among the general population of this state, which is false."

Do you mean the general Democratic population, or the actual general population? If you mean the general population of a Republican state like Ohio, then you're probably right. No doubt they want Hillary to stay in as long as possible.

19. Mr. HughB. I'm embarrassed to admit this but I don't recognize the photo of the white statue in your...
post.

Would you be kind enough to educate me. (I guess I need to get out more)

Thanks.

And by the way what do you think about the idea I have heard tossed about that it is good for Hill to stay in now through May 20th? The theory being that she has a large lead in some states. Better not for Obama to loose to a person who has pulled out. As long as she keeps it clean and polite that is?

There is some logic to it even though we are all tired and would like to put this thing into the pages of history.

20. Just a New Zealand Anchor, is all.
If that's what Hillary's choosing to do, more power to her. Surely she can even concede that this is doing more than substantial damage to the Party's task at hand, which is running Obama and defeating a weak Republican candidate (geez, talk about your classic redundancies) that by all rights should be an open-and-shut win.

Or maybe she can't. Either way, the math has moved her chances from a little improbable to a great deal improbable.

24. I Was There-- not a true article
I was at the Ohio Dem. Convention today, and that was definitely not the message of the day. The speakers and Party leaders went out of their way to avoid talking about either candidate. The main message of the day was to defeat McCain. The very right-leaning Enquirer found one person to quote and is making it a story.
