Source: MarketWatch)

CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- Consumers pinched by soaring prices for gasoline, granola and green grapes are increasingly looking at their stimulus checks as a means of making ends meet for at least a month or so.

A growing number of consumers told pollsters in at least three separate surveys recently that they will use the money the government is sending them in coming weeks to pay down debt, fill up the family car and stock the kitchen pantry.

But, as my husband says whenever I complain that any money we get goes directly down the drain (car repairs, medical bills, etc)-- "Well, at least we got it to pay it!"

9. Well, it was never really intended to do anything
It was just a placebo. They knew it wouldn't do anything because it never has in the past. They just wanted to look like they were doing something.

19. Spent mine yesterday.
Broken car window mechanism. $420 for a few plastic parts to raise and lower the thing, and putting them in. But for the tool to remove the door handle, I could have done the work myself. Of course, the auto manufacturer made sure that little tool is hard to find- except at their dealership.

:grr:
