Powell Frets Over State of Democracy
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell issued an unusually strong warning Monday on the state of Russia's democracy, expressing concern as he went into two days of top-level talks in Moscow over the growing tilt of power toward the state. The tone of subsequent public statements from both sides, however, was one of cooperation and friendship.

The comments were the most outspoken public criticism yet by a senior U.S. official since December's parliamentary elections, in which the pro-Kremlin United Russia took two-thirds of the seats in the State Duma, and the October jailing of oil magnate Mikhail Khodorkovsky.

Earlier in the day, Powell told reporters that his Izvestia piece "wasn't in any way an attempt on my part to interfere in internal dynamics of Russian political life. It was one friend speaking to another," Reuters reported.

6. Your heading is deceptive. Powell loves whats going on in America now.
Russia and American democracy are two different things. Besides, george* looked into the eyes of putie pute and saw a good man, how can he go bad now?

11. This sounds like a good issue for us
The GOP always talks about how THEY won the Cold War, and yet we can hit them with allowing the Soviets to creep back into power on THEIR watch.
