LIMA -(Dow Jones)- President Alan Garcia's popularity has rebounded to 35%, a month after reaching its lowest point since he took office in July 2006.

A survey by Lima pollster Ipsos Apoyo Opinion y Mercado SA, published Sunday, showed Garcia's approval rating jumped nine percentage points in May from 26% a month earlier after Peru hosted a summit of European Union and Latin American leaders.

The poll of 1,000 people, conducted May 20-22, showed that support for Garcia was highest in Lima, at 42%, and lowest in the eastern jungle regions, at 13%.

Apoyo's director, Alfredo Torres, wrote in El Comercio newspaper that the E.U.-Latin America summit on May 16, in which European and Latin American leaders vowed to tackle climate change and poverty, "had generated a wave of moderate optimism."

Garcia's popularity was 28% and 26% in March and April, respectively, amid concerns of higher inflation and corruption.

1. Is he doing the Humpty Hump in those pictures?
Edited on Mon May-26-08 11:55 AM by TroubleMan
First I limp to the side like my leg was broken
Shakin' and twitchin' kinda like I was smokin'
Crazy wack funky
People say ya look like M.C. Hammer on crack, Humpty
That's all right 'cause my body's in motion
It's supposed to look like a fit or a convulsion
Anyone can play this game
This is my dance, y'all, Humpty Hump's my name
No two people will do it the same
Ya got it down when ya appear to be in pain

2. Looks like the leftist, Ollanta Humala, could beat him right now.
Humala ended up with 45% of the vote, in the last general election, to Garcia's 55%. Garcia's support in the election has plummeted 20% to 35% (currently), and had tanked well below that (as indicated above). It's interesting that Humala--with no experience and no money--first of all bumped the rightwing candidate out of the race, in the primary, getting 30% of the vote (MORE than Garcia). This left the Bushites with no rightwing candidate to support. So they got the very corrupt Garcia to agree to U.S.-dominated "free trade," and had to go with him, to stave off a REAL leftist (Humala) being elected. Humala then INCREASED his support from 30% to 45% in the general election. The fascinating question is where did those 15% MORE votes come from? They certainly didn't come from the rightwing candidate he had bumped out of the race. Between the primary and the general election, both Evo Morales (president of Bolivia) and Hugo Chavez (president of Venezuela) endorsed Humala. The global corporate predator 'news' tried to paint this as interference that Peruvian voters objected to. (Of course, they never provide any evidence for their warped narratives.) But I think just the opposite happened. And I think it was more Morales than Chavez. Their endorsement activated the indigenous vote, who couldn't give a fuck about colonial borders. Morales is 100% indigenous, and closely tied to indigenous spiritual leaders. He is the first indigenous president of Bolivia (a largely indigenous country). His word would carry great weight in the indigenous community. They got out the vote--and, even in the midst of a filthy corporate predator campaign against Humala, INCREASED his votes by 15%.

And now that Bushite "free trade" is working out as expected--destroying Peru's economy--Humala will be back. And Peru will finally join the awesome leftist revolution that has swept South America.
