Gay marriage to begin June 17 in California
Edited on Wed May-28-08 02:40 PM by Newsjock
Source: Associated Press

California officials are telling county clerks that they can start issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples on June 17. The state Office of Vital Records says it chose June 17 because the state Supreme Court has until the end of business on June 16 to decide whether to grant a stay of its ruling legalizing gay marriage.

Gay rights advocates and some clerks initially thought couples would be able to wed as early as June 14 — exactly 30 days after the court's May 15 ruling.

New marriage license forms also will include lines for "Party A" and "Party B" instead of bridge and groom.

2. Do both Party A and Party B have to be American citizens?
How does same-sex marriage work in California for transnational couples?

4. no
you don't need to be a US citizen to marry in California, or even a resident of California. unlike Mass.

however, it won't help you with Immigration.

3. I hope the first images are good...
The first examples of gay marriages should not be Ellen DeGeneres or George Takei or Linday Lohan, or anyone else that will be stereotypes as "Hollywood Liberals". America should see "ordinary couples" with real jobs and mortgages, raising kids, and acting just like they do.

They shouldn't overturn it. 51% of the people think they should be able to marry. 42% opposed.

This is a recent survey.

10. most couples will probably be older ones with low key weddings
people who have been together for decades and can finally be legalized. the media will not have much interest in these, but this is how i imagine most of the weddings will be like.

the Massachusettes images were all very nice from what i remember. and even then i recall most of them were older people.
