Brown scraps all UK cluster bombs
Source: The Independent UK

Gordon Brown said today that Britain will scrap all its cluster bombs and he called on other countries to follow the UK's lead.

The Prime Minister said he hoped Britain's action would "break the log jam" and make an international agreement on banning the weapons possible.

He was speaking as talks reached their final stages in Irish capital Dublin on prohibiting the use of the weapons, which have been blamed for killing and maiming thousands of civilians in war zones.

Speaking in 10 Downing Street, Mr Brown said: "We have decided, after a great deal of discussion, that we can help break the log jam so that we can get international agreement that would ban cluster bombs.

"We have decided we will take all our types of cluster bombs out of service. I believe that is going to make a difference to the negotiations that are now taking place.

1. Translation:
"We've run out and can't afford to buy any more. Better make a virtue out of necessity and say we're scrapping them on moral grounds. Even better, if we can get everyone else to agree to do the same, we won't be at a strategic disadvantage."

Still, even a hypocritical politician can do good sometimes, even if unintentionally. Kudos to Gordo for that, at least.

2. Step in the right direction.
Good job, Gordon. Hopefully that will discourage our idiots this side of the pond from dropping ours on Iran.

4. We "Walk Against Weapons" in MN. 50 participate.
50 people came out to walk against weapons.
Alliant Tech in MN makes Cluster Bombs. We walked from old headquarters to new headquarters. 5 miles from Edina to Eden Prairie.

We raised 3000.00. I hope this news about UK will help shut down Alliant Tech.
