Barr campaign to white supremacists: ‘Don’t let the door hit you on the way out’
Source: Atlantic Journal Constitution

Libertarian blogs are reporting that Bob Barr is having it out with the same group of white supremacists who sullied Ron Paul’s Republican presidential campaign.

A pair of web sites, including something called Stormfront.org, on Monday ran an endorsement of Barr by James Buchanan:

“A vote for Bob Barr would at least send a message to the Republican Party that conservatives and Whites won’t sit still as they are stuck with a liberal presidential candidate like McCain.”

David Weigel at Reason.com offers this bit of essential background on Libertarian politics, and why that endorsement struck a nerve:

One of the bigger media blunders the Ron Paul campaign made was its handling of endorsements from the bigots at Stormfront. White nationalists slithered around the fringes of the Paul movement, and Paul refused to return a donation from Stormfronter Don Black on the grounds that he’d rather the money be spent on the Paul campaign than spent by racists.

Thirdpartywatch.com reports Barr campaign manager Russ Verney is having none of it. He immediately issued this statement:

”The Barr campaign is not going to be a vehicle for every fringe and hate group to promote itself.

“We do not want and will not accept the support of haters. Tell the haters I said don’t let the door hit you on the backside on your way out!

“Anyone with love in their heart for our country and for every resident of our country regardless of race, religion, nationality or sexual orientation is welcome with open arms.”

Break out the popcorn!! This is going to be delicious.

If Ron Paul can pull the "race-baiting" Rethuglicans, and Barr pulls the "drown the government in the bathtub" Republicans, McCain may not get 15% of the vote.

It may be time for Dems to turn the tables on Limpballs. I might send a check to Bob Barr's campaign. This election is going to be one for the ages.

Who was it that said; "May you live in interesting times"?

2. I found that odd as well
Where are "knuckle-dragging Freakers" and Rush Limpballs listeners going to go?

I'm hoping they go to set up a camp in the most remote part of Pakistan. They'd fit right in.

31. Mr. DOMA/impeachment has shown a weird sort of integrity in his old age...
...consulting with the ACLU on privacy issues, for example. If we have to have a corrupt asshole for president, we could do a lot worse than Barr.

4. The problem is....
Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 04:25 PM by vinylsolution
.... that Bob Barr, Ron Paul, Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney are completely blacked out by the corporate media. As far as they're concerned, every presidential race must only ever be a two-horse race, contended by the two corporate parties.

It's all very well for these minor candidates to run, but the vast majority of voters don't even know who they are - never mind what they stand for.

Our elections are a tragedy that plays out every four years, and sadly, the status quo will prevail.

9. they, the pigmedia, are the real cause for despair...
they created bush (i recall on eve of the 2k vote a large percentage of american voters still mistook junyer for the old killer, his father, and would vote on that basis...) and have maintained the criminal thug for 8 long years. It's the newsmedia that must, someday, be destroyed as they exist, or else we sink deeper into the bog of lies

11. While that's true, the media has been blocking,
Ron Paul has a pretty strong, albeit small, following. I would think Libertarians would have even LESS regard for national media than liberals and progressives.

They'll know and they will talk and convince and share. And let's not forget calls to C-span Washington Journal. I think both Barr and Paul can make a major difference.

And we're going to watch McBush go down in flames!

Perot managed to break through the two parties, maybe Barr will too.

8. Is Barr being black still a secret?
I'm originally from Georgia and every time Bob Barr came on television, black people across the state would say "that man definitely has some black in him."

I can't say for sure because he certainly has never admitted as such, but that would be interesting. I love political theater. :)

And kudos to his campaign for making that statement about the fringe and hate elements of their party.

cocktail party --- I think some cake or icing had landed on her breast .... ???
Wasn't that it?

But I'm sure there's lots of stuff to dig up on his past!!!

Libertarians --- the right-wing, that is -- aren't quite the sweethearts some may think them!!

20. Communing with the Council (SPLC re: Barr & the white citizens councils)
When a race hate scandal engulfed a right-wing group in 1998, politicians ran for cover. They didn't stay away long
By Heidi Beirich and Bob Moser

Intelligence Report
Fall 2004

Though it had deep roots in Southern politics and claimed 15,000 members — more than the Ku Klux Klan has boasted for decades — the white-supremacist Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC) was a mystery to most Americans until 1998. Late that year, a scandal erupted over prominent Southern politicians' ties to the brazenly racist group.

At first, even the politicians in question claimed they didn't know what this Council was all about. Sen. Trent Lott of Mississippi, who had spoken to the group five times, once telling its members they "stand for the right principles and the right philosophy," claimed he had "no firsthand knowledge" of it.

Congressman Bob Barr of Georgia, who touched off the brouhaha by delivering a keynote speech at the CCC's national convention in June 1998, said he had "no idea" what the organization stood for.

Those explanations wouldn't suffice for long. An Intelligence Report investigation (see Sharks in the Mainstream, Issue 93), picked up by several network newscasts and major newspapers, made it crystal clear what the CCC was: a hate group that routinely denigrated blacks as "genetically inferior," complained about "Jewish power brokers," called homosexuals "perverted sodomites," accused immigrants of turning America into a "slimy brown mass of glop," and named Lester Maddox, the baseball bat-wielding, arch-segregationist former governor of Georgia, "Patriot of the Century" ...

Edited on Wed Jun-04-08 01:49 PM by maxrandb
then Chairman of the RNC also speak at the CCC Convention?

I always knew that CCC was simply KKK "lite".

and the Repubs wonder why they have problems with minority voters. I guess that's why when they want to reach out to minority American's, they turn to a guy like Sean Hannity :eyes:

Just from my experiences with the guy, he's a flat out racist (not that uncommon among Ole Miss frat boy alumni). On a note of curiosity, the guy has a trunk full of guns at the foot of his bed at his home in Biloxi. I've seen it with my own eyes!

To paraphrase what an aide to Arlen Spector told the copywriter Jerry Della Femina about Spector ages ago: Barr stands for getting elected.

28. I've Been Thinking About Flush...I've Also Been Thinking About...
I wouldn't mind us Democrats taking Flush's idea and running with it. I've been toying around with the idea of donating to the Libertarians myself. I've also been thinking about the Rethugs' efforts to pump up Ralph what's-his-name's third-party run in 2004. As far as I'm concerned, there's still a large unpaid account over there. Payback is definitely in order.
