Judge allows Blackwater to open San Diego center

By ALLISON HOFFMAN, Associated Press Writer
31 minutes ago

SAN DIEGO - A federal judge Wednesday ordered the city to allow military contractor Blackwater Worldwide to begin using a new counterterrorism training center in a warehouse outfitted with an indoor firing range. District Judge Marilyn Huff ruled that the company would suffer irreparable harm if it could not begin holding classes there for Navy sailors.

Blackwater sued last month to force the city to issue final occupancy permits after the required inspections were already approved, claiming officials upended normal procedures because they feared a political backlash.

The city responded that the company misled officials about the nature of the center, which includes a multilevel mock ship built out of cargo containers, to avoid triggering a full review by the city planning commission and a possible City Council vote. Huff found that other firing range operators in the city had not been required to undergo similar reviews.

Classes for sailors will begin Thursday, according to Brian Bonfiglio, a Blackwater executive overseeing the project. They were originally set to begin at the center Monday but were suspended pending the judge's ruling. "I am officially ecstatic," Bonfiglio said. The city said in a statement that it would probably appeal.

- So, "the company would suffer irreparable harm," eh? Well, that's nothing compared to the irreparable harm Blackwater inflicts upon us. But what else would one expect coming from a judge who was appointed by a Bush????

16. I don't know.
"Back in my day" (a mere 4 years ago), we did our training internally. NATU (Naval Anti-Terrorist Unit) would come to your ship and teach you what to look for. FTG/ATG (Fleet Training Group/Afloat Training Group) would run exercises with you. We cross trained with Marines. We went to the shooting ranges with our own gunner's mates and learned how to shoot.

Has our military gotten that helpless?

25. Who would you rather having training the Navy on hostile ship take down?
Former Seals, Delta, and Special Forces operatives who have practiced it countless times and done on more than a few occasions or a Surface Warfare Officer and ten sailors who went to a month long course and are now on the training staff?

Also, it is cheaper for the military to send personnel to a course for a flat fee, rather than have to pay the salaries, housing, etc for the instructors and the ammo, electric bill, insurance, etc for the training facility.

19. Why do I have the strange feeling
that some incident is going to happen in the San Diego area.

...and guess what? Blackwater just happens to be available to step in to provide "security". That would set the precedent for other actions later.

I hope I'm just paranoid from the recent bong-hit.

21. Judge allows Blackwater to resume work on San Diego facility
Source: Los Angeles Times

SAN DIEGO -- A federal judge Wednesday cleared the way for the controversial Blackwater Worldwide security firm to open a facility to provide weapons training and other "force protection" techniques to U.S. Navy sailors.

U.S. District Judge Marilyn Huff ruled that "the public interest weighs in favor" of allowing the company to open its facility in a 61,000-square-foot warehouse on Otay Mesa near the Mexican border.

Still, Huff gave city lawyers a final chance to make their argument that the company, in effect, engaged in trickery by using the name of subsidiaries in applying for permits. A hearing is set for June 17.

The Blackwater facility is opposed by a coalition of environmentalists, Rep. Bob Filner (D-Chula Vista) and opponents of U.S. policy in Iraq. The same group opposed Blackwater's plan to build a much larger complex in a rural area east of San Diego, a plan that was scrapped in March.

22. Than god for the Second Amendment...
Our only real defense if the Boy from Brazil declares martial law and uses Blackwater to enforce it is the Second Amendment. The reality is the founding fathers intended us to be able to defend ourselves from the government itself if need be. You can go to prison for talking about ovethrowing the goverment but the Second Amendment talks about defending ourselves if anyone attempts to overthrow the government. And the reality of George W Bush is that he may yet attempt to do just that and do so by declaring martial law and suspending the Constitution.

And the Republicans will probably be firing the first shot if he does so.

23. Blackwater reminds me of the organization Oz in the Japanese anime Gundam Wing.
For those who are not familiar with the show, Oz was an organization pretty much like Blackwater. The show takes place several centuries in the future when space colonies have been established to alleviate overpopulation on earth.

Oz worked hand-in-hand with what was known as the Earth Sphere Alliance, which was an organization originally established to promote peace and freedom throughout the world and the colonies. Over time, the ESA became infiltrated with Oz militarists, and the Alliance gradually adopted a more militaristic stance on promoting its policies. Eventually, the ESA resorted to force and terror to make nations join the alliance. Pacifist nations were dealt with cruelly.

Oz, like Blackwater, became an organization that provided not just training to soldiers of the Alliance but also provided military hardware, and it was their war machines that were the secret to the Alliance's success in crushing opposition. Because of Oz's position in the Alliance, they quickly gained a level of autonomy within the military structure that no other entity inside the Alliance military possessed.

In time, Oz would launch a coup d'etat by engineering the killing of the pacifists within the Alliance military who were seeking to assure the space colonies that the Alliance would not attack them. With the pacifists gone, Oz swept aside the remaining internal opposition within the Alliance and took control. Oz itself was an organization sponsored by the Romefeller Foundation, which also helped establish the Alliance in the first place. The Foundation was an organization comprised of elite industrialists and wealthy aristocrats who sought power and control over all humanity.

This coup would spark a bloody war that spanned earth and the colonies and would end with the eventual defeat of the militarists and the dismantling of most major war machines.

I bring the whole spiel up to demonstrate a point: Letting organizations like Blackwater train and provide support to the military is a recipe for developing a dependency on them, like becoming addicted to the drug. Eventually, they will gain more and more influence until they eventually dictate the future of your nation.

Blackwater would not exist without arms build-ups and wars. Hence, it would be in their best interest to see that the US adopt a permanent militarized stance. There can be no peace in such an environment.
