Laura Bush: U.S. relations 'on the mend' ( heard 'pro-American' words in her travels)
Source: Chicago Trib

The first lady reports hearing of some 'pro-American' words in her travels.

Heading into Paris, where U.S.-Franco relations have been frayed by the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and other issues, First Lady Laura Bush asserted somewhat confidently: "I think it's on the mend.''

President Bush delivers an address there today about his vision of liberty, and the first lady concludes work at an international donors' conference that has committed more than $20 billion to the rebuilding of war-torn Afghanistan - an interest which Laura Bush, who visited Afghanistan again before this tour, says she expects to maintain for the rest of her life.

The first lady, who had gone to Paris for the donors' conference and has returned with the president, reports that the relatively new French leader, Nicolas Sarkozy, has been overheard to be saying some very "pro-American'' things there.

And she professes success in the donor-talks.

"We're not sure exactly of the number, but it looks like it's $20 billion to $21 billion, which is really terrific,'' Laura Bush, who walked back to the press cabin on Air Force One en route to Paris today, said of the donor-conference commitments to Afghanistan. "That means that the United States only represents about a half of it.

2. Its getting better because other govt. think Obama is coming in.
There is a whole article in the paper this morning on how excited the near eastern countries are because they really like Obama.

I'm sure lots of countries feel the same way. Bush is going to be gone and they can hardly wait.

5. It is TOO funny...
that she is TOO STUPID to realize JUST THAT!

The rest of the world (with the possible exception
of Israel) has their collective fingers crossed for
us...they LOVE Obama!

16. Look at who's she's married to, look at how her kids behave, then
I don't think you'd need to ask if she were stupid or not. She is one of the most obtuse creatures that ever drew breath on this planet.

30. Her kids behave like she must have...
To be driving through a stop sign at 50 mph at 17 and hitting her friend head on. Kids will be kids, but vehicular homicide is reserved for the really out of control.

I'm not entirely sure that the phrase "we're really looking forward to trying your idiot husband (and as many of his cabal of war profiteers as we can catch before they move to Paraguay) for war crimes " counts as pro-American sentiment.

6. $20 billion is terrific?
$20 billion won't even get the country to where it was before Bush bombed the shit out of it.

But then this is coming from the spouse who said in 2001, "it's been a fabulous year for Laura and me".

10. Well. She overheard SARKOZY saying pro-american words...
Which isn't surprising, considering Sarkozy based himself as pro-american during his election campaign and even before. His support, back in France, is also dwindling. His reforms are unpopular and French people have been opposed to the Iraq-Afghanistan wars since before they began. Paris and Lyon hosted huge "peace marches" in early 2003, with close to a million protesters in both cities.

The title seems misleading, to say the least.

17. "donor conference"? BTW..what ever happened with that
"keeping young boys out of gangs" thing she did a couple years ago? Hmmm??

One photo-op and lots of hoopla and we haven't heard anything since.

See? If the press really wanted to do something productive (and this would be a fairly easy research project) they'd go to their archives and find the name of that so-called initiative and do some follow-up to see what's been accomplished, whether the program is still in operation and if not, why not.

If, as part of your job, you were tasked with instituting some sort of program, you can bet your sweet bippy that at SOME point your boss would want a status report. How come the cretins who rule this country never have to be accountable for anything?? On our dime!!

24. Thorazine would certainly explain that "glazed-over" look she sports.
Then again, like all good Republics, if they can get a prescription for it, it's in their medicine cabinet. I know someone (R) with so many different prescriptions, she uses the drawer of a filing cabinet to hold them all. Told her I had back pain once, and three tiny pills had me high for two days.

I can see where the Republics would prefer, then become addicted to these drugs - no muss, no fuss and little threat of getting caught, as long as the doctor gets paid.

Iraq, perceived hypocrisy fuel record anti-Americanism: report
2 days ago

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Anti-Americanism is at record levels thanks to US policies such as the war in Iraq, and Washington's perceived hypocrisy in abiding by its own democratic values, US lawmakers said Wednesday.

32. Well, this week I've talked to Czechs, Austrians, Slovenians...
...Germans, French, Brits, Croatians, and a few other European nationalities. I've been on vacation for a 8 days in Vienna and Prague.

None of them had a good word to say about the Bushes. Just the opposite. What is the Slovenian word for "douchebag," anyhow? And as noted before, I've lived in Egypt for 3 years and never heard anything good about the Bushes from those folks, either.

I can report that most of the Europeans said good things about Americans in general, and are fascinated by Obama.
