Karzai issues warning to Pakistan
Source: BBC

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has warned that he is ready to send troops over the border into Pakistan to confront militants based there.

He said that when militants crossed over from Pakistan to kill Afghans and coalition troops, his nation had the right to retaliate in "self-defence".

Mr Karzai's remarks came two days after Taleban fighters attacked an Afghan jail, freeing hundreds of prisoners.

Pakistan denies providing a safe haven for the Taleban or other militants.

Mr Karzai has long pleaded for Pakistan and international forces to confront militants in Pakistan but has not before threatened to send troops over the border.

1. Big talk from the Mayor of Kabul
George can't get the Pakistani government to do what he wants, so how does his puppet expect anything? And Karzai can't even control half his country, even with our troops.

4. You think? I thought maybe he'd just go have Laura defrost the freezer and
pull the old geeze out for thawing. But who knows? They supposedly know where he's at in Pakistan.

Sheesh, who's kidding who anyway? Like Karzai has any native troops cabable of carrying that farce out. Pakistan's military is organized, ready at all times, and armed to the teeth with the best that the US can supply. The only way Karzai could pull that off is with cover from our troops (if not active participation).

6. The border is in the wrong place
The border is the Durand Line, imposed on the Afghans by the Foreign Office of British India. It divides the Pashtun tribal lands in half. The Pashtuns don't recognize it themselves. The Pakistanis regard the Pashtun part of Afghanistan as within their sphere of interest because it gives them the strategic depth that they otherwise lack in any confrontation with India.

Good luck to Mr Karzai in getting Pashtuns to cross the border to fight Pashtuns on the other side. Good luck to any other group crossing the border to take on the Pashtuns and the Pakistanis.

It's more likely we'll continue to bomb in Pakistan occasionally.

Afghanistan leader threatens Pakistan with troops

last updated: June 15, 2008 04:01:17 PM

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Afghan President Hamid Karzai Sunday inflamed relations with Islamabad by threatening to send troops into Pakistan to hunt down Taliban fighters who find sanctuary across the border.

Karzai alleged that Pakistan was secretly supporting the Taliban, including providing a refuge for the group's leader, Mullah Omar. The United States, struggling militarily in Afghanistan, has also accused Pakistan, supposedly a key ally in the anti-terror fight, of providing shelter for militants. Pakistan has angrily rejected the charge.

"Afghanistan has the right to destroy terrorist nests on the other side of the border in self-defense," Karzai said, speaking to reporters in Kabul.

"When they cross the border from Pakistan to come and kill Afghans and coalition troops, it gives us exactly the right to go back and do the same."

10. Bush purposefully let Omar go when he had him in Kandahar. He did
not allow the Special Forces to finish off the Taliban and alQueda in the Afghan mountains. He did not want to win that conflict; if he had, he would have had no reason to go after Saddam Hussein.

12. This is hard to believe.
Count me as ~ amazed.
Hamid Karzai is a US puppet. He's always been a whimp. Even when the US dropped bombs on
Afghanistan, Karzai was upset but he let it go on.
Well after all he is a Unocal employee.

But this????
I never would have expected it. Karzai is pushing his luck.
