Gallup Daily: Obama, McCain Tied at 45%
Source: Gallup Poll

PRINCETON, NJ -- The latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update on the presidential election finds John McCain and Barack Obama exactly tied at 45% among registered voters nationwide.

Voter preferences had been fairly evenly divided for the past week, with Obama generally holding a slight advantage of two or three percentage points. This is the first time since Gallup's May 31-June 4 rolling average that Obama does not have at least a slim advantage over McCain. Obama's largest lead to date has been seven points. (To view the complete trend since March 7, 2008, click here.)

Since the changes from Tuesday's results are well within the margin of sampling error, it is unclear at this point if today's results represent a further tightening of the race. The last two individual nights of polling have, however, been more favorable to McCain that what Gallup has shown for most of June.

For what it's worth.

Article mentions those polled were registered voters, not likely voters. Also, it doesn't mention the breakdown of how those polled identify themselves politically.

Lots of work to do before November, whether you believe in this poll or not!

1. Sorry, but I don't believe this poll for one minute.
Edited on Wed Jun-25-08 03:56 PM by Dover

In reality Obama is way ahead of McCain. I think we are being set up for another 'close election'...if ya know what I mean. Polls have got to be the number one tool for propaganda.
If they can get people believing they are the minority they can disempower them, or that there is an even balance between two opposing groups then they are easier to control. And just think of all the extra money these two campaigns will attract in a 'close race'. Propagandists know that it's all about perception rather than reality.

The MSM is not the only propaganda tool in the hands of corporations...

I don't know what We can do about this, but I'm not buying their lemonade.

were going to surprise us year after year after year - and I've been disappointed. I'll believe it when I see it.

17. And I suppose you also believe that the last two elections were legitimate?
You're welcome to your reality. Mine is a little different, apparently.

23. Perhaps, but in either case it was close, it won't be this time. In addition,
there were major problems in Ohio and Florida in 2004 which should have never occurred

However, 2006 fortells a different outcome

22. You want to live in the past fine. Either way it WAS close, and this won't be
and because of that, the misvotes are not going to happen

I guess by your logic we lost in 2006 also. Maybe you don't recognize trends. We took back the House AND the Senate when history says we should not have, and the momentum is even stronger in our direction

They can only get away with cheating if the election is close, IT WON'T BE

3. Not too concerned
The Poll was of "registered" voters instead of "likely" voters, which probably led to the disparity between this poll and the 15% polls. Anyway, thanks to our brilliant, and by brilliant I mean needlessly complicated, electoral system for presidential elections, the popular vote means absolutely squat.

5. I don't think that it's that
I think it's more likely that Gallup is using a bad proportion of repub self identifiers (keeping it close to Dems).

6. Who could have anticipated that the race would be this close?
Gee I dunno.

Now we're ALL going to have to watch the news (and the commercials) and read the papers (and the ads) to see how the race develops.

Hew!

For a moment there I thought the race might be so lopsided, that we could turn off the TV an put away the newspapers....

:sarcasm:

11. ALL.POLLS.LIE
When are people going to earn that/ they are all 100% conservative biased. Obama had a 15 point lead in the last poll and now it mysteriously ties up? don't even think of posting this bullshit here to help spread the right wing propaganda.

13. Boy, chico, you get upset easily.
What happened when you found out the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus weren't real?

I know Gallup is suspect and I cited my doubts with the poll in my OP. But it's in our own interests to hear how the other side is beginning to spin things.

Mr. Keyboard Muscles thinks he's going to tell me what not to post. :eyes:

Cuz I'd just as soon see it so I can take a whack at it.

Don't shoot the messengers, k? And try to get some sense of proportion in your "outrage" at the O.P. You must be a lot of fun on a two-day car trip.

20. I saw a poll this morning that had Obama up by 12 points over McBush.
And when Nader and Barr were throw in the mix Obama was up 15 points.

Obama will win in November.
