1. House Passes Long-Delayed War Funding Bill
A long-delayed Iraq war funding bill sailed through the House on Thursday, along with historic increases in college aid for returning troops and help for the unemployed and Midwestern flood victims.

Republican allies of President Bush provided the winning margin in a 268-155 vote to provide $162 billion to fund U.S. operations in Iraq and Afghanistan well into next year.

Democrats opposed to the war, however, succeeded in using the Iraq funding bill as an engine to drive past White House resistance a sweeping revision to GI Bill college benefits and a 13-week extension of unemployment checks for those whose benefits have run out.

Lawmakers separately approved those domestic add-ons by a 416-12 vote, sending the combined bill to the Senate for a vote next week. The White House issued a statement supporting the legislation.

Congress on Thursday night approved a $162 billion spending bill for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The bill, given final approval Thursday in the Senate on a 92-6 vote, also provides veterans a free college education and extends expiring unemployment benefits for another 13 weeks. It provides $2.7 billion in emergency flood relief in the Midwest.

8. we could rebuild the third largest water shed in the world,
"fix" the up coming water shortage in the west, and rebuild our roads and bridges. we could put tens if not hundreds of thousands back to work with in one to two years. that`s just one years funding for the war.

10. It is very sad to realize that the only way to get extended vet benefits and help the
unemployed of this nation, is to continue to fund a pointless, costly, self-defeating war.
