Powell Assures Turkey on Kurdish Issue

Thursday January 29, 2004 4:46 PM

WASHINGTON (AP) - Secretary of State Colin Powell said Thursday he is confident that a solution can be reached to the dispute over the future of Iraqi Kurds.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, Powell said, "We are working all this out. It will take time. We have to take into account the interests of all parties, especially the interests of the Turks." <snip>

He said any solution would involve some degree of autonomy for Iraqi Kurds and a recognition by them that they are an integral part of Iraq. <snip>

1. Turkey's response tonight was "The US should not plan on leaving Iraq"
I noticed the media did not tie together the Turkish comments - if they mentioned them - with Colin's comments.

I think our media has been outsourced overseas!

2. We seem to be publicly reassuring Turkey a lot.
