Repeal would let out-of-state gays marry in Bay State
Source: Boston Herald

BOSTON - When Massachusetts became the first state to issue marriage licenses to gay couples in 2004, it left one big roadblock in place: Out-of-state couple needed not apply.

Now an effort is gaining momentum to repeal a 1913 state law that has banned most out of state gay couples from getting married. The law says couples cannot be married in Massachusetts if their unions would be illegal in their home states.

The Democratic leaders of the House and Senate and Gov. Deval Patrick support a repeal, which could come up for a vote as early as tomorrow in the Senate.

Opponents of gay marriage fear eliminating the law would open the gay marriage floodgates.

3. Gee. Just when it isn't needed any longer.
Now that California is willing to marry out-of-state gay couples, Massachusetts finally discovers all the tourist money and license fees it's been flushing down the crapper.

4. The wedding industry loot is no small pile.
Right now, as one of the few states to legally marry gays, they are in a position to clean up in that area if they use their brains and think of their hotels, catering firms, restaurants, gift shops, printing shops....all those people who would have their incomes supplemented by a little Yankee common sense. They own the East Coast on gay marriage if they act. If they don't, California rakes in the money from the entire nation.
