Hart Decides Not to Challenge Campell for Senate Seat
Former Sen. Gary Hart announced Friday that he will not challenge Republican Ben Nighthorse Campbell for his Colorado Senate seat this fall.

Hart, 67, a one-time presidential front-runner, said that after talking with supporters, party leaders and his family, he could best contribute by writing and speaking on economic, foreign policy and security issues, "especially those exacerbated by the policies of the current Bush administration."

Campbell, 70, a former Democrat, is running for a third term. He recently underwent prostate cancer treatments, but has promised a vigorous campaign.

Hart's decision leaves the party without a marquee challenger for Campbell, although several potential candidates are considering the race.

3. Webb might be promising
No one ever mentions Patricia Schroeder. Is she totally out of the loop in Colorado?

Would Tom Strickland be of any appeal in another race? His try in 2002 was the unfortunate victim of the Bush-All-Dems-Are-Traitors tsunami.

I'm sorry about Hart's decision.

4. A lost chance.
I really respect Gary Hart. I didn't much care for the treatment he got from Mondale in their race for the nomination, and I think Hart is one of the real big picture people the Democrats have.

I think he would have whupped Campbell.
