FCC 'wardrobe malfunction' fine overturned

WASHINGTON -- A U.S. appeals court Monday overturned a decision to fine CBS Corp television stations $550,000 for airing a brief breast flash by pop singer Janet Jackson during the 2004 Super Bowl broadcast.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit said the U.S. Federal Communications Commission "arbitrarily and capriciously departed from its prior policy" that exempted fleeting broadcast material from actionable indecency violations.

We are such a silly goose prudish society about some things, and a nipple of all things. You'd think none of us had a pair of our own.

Our obsession with associating casual nudity to sex and then demonizing it and avoiding it at all costs is just not mentally healthy.

It was a real emblem of national insanity that Janet Jackson's nipple ruffled so many feathers. Bottom line is that most people aren't comfortable with a moral genderme sitting in judgment with power.
