McCain May Act Soon on VP Pick
Source: Washington Post

Anxious to counter the blanket media coverage that has followed Sen. Barack Obama on his overseas journey, Sen. John McCain is weighing whether to announce his running mate in the coming weeks before the spotlight shifts to China and the opening of the Olympic Games next month.

"He's in a position to make on short notice if he wanted to," said Charles R. Black Jr., one of McCain's top political advisers.

Two top aides to the presumptive Republican nominee said the decision is likely to be announced after Obama returns from Europe on Sunday and before the Beijing Olympics begin Aug. 8. They said the campaign fears that unanticipated events coming out of China -- whether in the form of athletic accomplishments or human rights protests -- could deflect attention from the announcement if it were made during the Games.

The Olympics conclude the day before the Democratic nominating convention opens in Denver, and the GOP convention begins in Minneapolis-St. Paul just four days after the Democratic gathering ends.

1. The Oldman is desperate for headlines.
How many times is he going to push a story saying he MAY announce his losing veep spot.

Let's have it, or go back to the fudge haus.

That narrows it down considerably.

4. that's so not true
he can't pick anyone under about 60, or they'll make him look so, well, as ancient as he is.

he can't pick anyone over 60 or it'll make the team look, well, totally out of touch with the "youth" vote, you know, those kids under 60.

he must pick someone to counteract his obvious lack of understanding of that economy thing the masses just won't quit whining about.

that leaves mittens. big surprise. :boring:

6. He can't choose Mittens, either
Mittens has hair. He'll make McCain look too bald (and old).

I think his only option is to choose himself.

5. I saw Haley Barbour's name pop up in an article yesterday
oh please please please pick that walking pig. Please. Not only will his past as a huge fundraiser come to the forefront all the Katrina money that Mississippi got real quick like and all stayed in the hands of the uppercrust will too.

7. OK, so unless he picks
Satan for a running mate, I'm thinking this is all going to be rather ho-hum and anti-climactic and people will be back to focusing on Obama again.

8. Condroid or Powell
would be the choices that would be worst for the Democrats. Both would give McLame credibility. Condroid can speak in a way that obfuscates, yet sounds intelligent. It's hard to refute what she says, because she puts in too many verbal roadblocks and misdirections. Powell, despite being discredited, damaged goods, still has the respect of many people. Both could be used effectively against Obama and anyone he chose for VP. Both lend gravitas. They'd be good counterweights for the McLame cartoon factor that's overtaken his campaign lately.

18. Gotta agree
Both are damaged goods to the party, offering nothing to the ticket but targets for attacks. Not even the GOP machine could spin either of these two into anything more than complicit war criminals.

12. Condroid or Powell
Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 09:16 AM by AlbertCat
I doubt Powell will play Uncle Tom again. But y'never know!

And Condie....pu-leez! If you ask her what time it is, you will get a 45 minute dissertation of the history of time keeping....that's not accurate.... and your head will be swimming before she's done....at which point you still will not know what time it is. No one listens to her or trusts her....the security adviser during 9/11????? I don't think she adds gravitas, she adds tedium. Just what John needs to add to his campaign!

Besides, a black VP looks like a token...y'know, Obama but not as threatening! Keep the minority as the assistant, not in a top position!:eyes:

10. my prediction
mccain's pick will be romney, then it will be bait and switch -- just before or soon after the repub convention, mccain will drop out for "health reasons", romney will become the nominee

ok, so my :tinfoilhat: may be on a bit too tight, but the repubs are desperate. what better way to squash the McCain=Bush and disrupt Obama's campaign plans at the same time?

if I were Obama, I'd be planning for this possibility NOW

14. I thought of the old switcheroo thing too, except
that there's a reason why Romney and the others didn't "win" the party nomination.

So I'm seriously wondering if the bunch of them couldn't even make it through the nomination process (including Romney), why would the Repubs think he'd be any more acceptable as the switch-hit candidate...

I honestly think it would end up pissing off a whole lot of Republicans

Well, that's my opinion...who knows what they'd actually do....

11. News of the Future!
What is this? A Laugh-in skit? Part of "Network"?

Whatever it is, "John McCain may do something in the future that he has to eventually do anyway" is not a news story. Like all those "Will Hillary run in '08?" stories we got throughout 2004, 2005, 2006 and so on, it is a prediction.

Let me know when something actually does happen, instead of divining what the future may bring. Boy, the MSM sux!

16. How many high-profile African-American rethugs are there?
Condiliar, Alan Keyes, and JC Watts - that's about all I can come up with.

You don't think he would pick one of them, and say "Hey look, we got one of them too", do you?
