KBR counts 2 more Iraq electrocution deaths (has counted 15 deaths)
Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) - The chief executive of Iraq contractor KBR has told Senator Bob Casey that the number of Americans who died from accidental electrocutions in Iraq may be higher than the 13 previously disclosed by the military.

William Utt told the Pennsylvania Democrat that through news reports, KBR has counted 15 deaths from electrocutions while soldiers were showering.

Casey says there have also been dozens of injuries and hundreds of fires from faulty electrical work and that there have been reports of problems with people being shocked as recently as three weeks ago.

But Casey and a fellow Pennsylvania Democrat, Congressman Jason Altmire, say it's not clear whether it's the military or the contractor that bears responsibility.

Casey says there are "hundreds and hundreds of questions that Congress must ask."

3. I saw some testimony about this on CSpan Wednesday.
I know this will surprise everyone, but General Patraeus instructed KBR to do the investigation of the electrical work that KBR did. WTF?

5. Being electrocuted has never even crossed my mind while showering....
I'm thinking there's a reason - a financial reason - that this is happening. Somehow, someone is benefiting from the design and construction methods being used to build these facilities and the electrical hazards are the consequence. I'd have said "unintended consequence", but it sounds as if the bean counters at KBR deemed it an acceptable risk after "risk analysis"*, so it rises to the level of malfeasance.

The U.S. government is paying $4-$5K "blood money" (when they have to) for each Iraqi killed by our military or mercenaries - How much are they paying the families of our soldiers to shut them up and keep the contract cash flowing to the very companies that are killing our soldiers?

6. Yeah, they're saving a few pennies by bringing in unqualified workers.
Cheryl Harris accused KBR yesterday of "extreme recklessness and a total disregard for public safety." I've written so much about Cheryl and her heroic quest, let me concentrate here on the two former KBR electricians who accuse the company of shoddy and negligent management practices in its war-theater operations.

Debbie Crawford of Oregon, who worked for KBR in Baghdad, told the Senate Democratic Policy Committee that the company failed to provide its electricians with basic tools and equipment, and routinely farmed out jobs to local and "third-country" subcontractors who knew nothing about U.S. standards and often had no electrical experience at all.

"Time and time again we heard, 'This is not the United States, (U.S. health and safety standards don't) apply here.'" she said.
