McCain's bus crashes in Miami
Source: miami herald

Politics is tough. So is driving in Miami. Just ask Sen. John McCain's tour bus driver.

The presumed Republican nominee's tour bus got tangled in a traffic accident at about 3 p.m. Wednesday on 55th and Biscayne Blvd. No one was injured.

Sen. McCain was not traveling on the bus when the accident occurred. The bus driver, Sen. Joe Leiberman and an aide were traveling southbound on Biscayne Boulevard when an accident occurred with a blue van, according to Miami Police. The driver of that vehicle was the sole occupant.

''This was an unfortunate incident, but we're thankful that everyone is okay,'' said Mario Diaz, campaign manager for Sen. McCain for the SE Region.

is running now as a REPUBLICAN VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE.

27. Actually, it's also fact.
It took only a few seconds of Googling to get these, but I didn't need to Google as I was here during the last three election cycles and Republicans have always been Nader's chief financial backers.

Republican support for Nader, or at least for his appearing on the ballot, is exploding all over. The Wisconsin chapter of the Citizens for a Sound Economy plans to work to get him onto that state's ballot. According to an Arizona Democratic attorney quoted in The New York Times, 46 percent of the signatures filed by the Nader campaign in that state belong to registered Republicans. Arizona Naderites are being represented by Lisa Hauser, an active Republican attorney and counsel to former GOP Gov. Fife Symington.

Wednesday, the chairman of the Florida Republican Party loosed a passionate call for Nader's appearance on the Florida ballot, calling the Democrats' legal challenge "beyond the bounds of hypocrisy."

This week, Business Week Online reported that of the $1 million raised by Nader so far, $41,000 comes from major Bush contributors. That included $2,000 from Richard Egan, who raised $200,000 for Bush -- which qualifies him, in the GOP fund-raising hierarchy, as a Ranger -- and served as Bush's ambassador to Ireland. A spokesman told Business Week it must be "a different Dick Egan," but then the Boston Globe reported Thursday that not only was it the same Dick Egan, but his son and daughter-in-law had given another $4,000 to Nader.

Nader Republicans

What do you do if you're a loyal Republican who, like three fifths of George W. Bush's donors, has given $2,000 to the President's re-election campaign—the maximum that the law allows? If you're among a growing number of clever conservatives, determined to bleed votes from John Kerry at any price, you write a check to Ralph Nader. Who better to throw a close election to your man than the guy who did so last time around? If Machiavelli had had to contend with campaign-finance laws, this is a tactic he might have devised.

Nader himself claims that his candidacy will attract angry conservatives. That description, however, doesn't fit the small but distinguished group of Republicans who have given him money; most had already voted for Bush with their checkbooks, donating thousands of dollars to the President and the Republican Party. "Nader would probably deny it," says Larry Noble, the director of the Center for Responsive Politics, a group that tracks money in politics, "but these people are obviously supporting him to undermine Kerry." According to data collected by the center, Nader's most prominent Republican backer is the billionaire Richard J. Egan, a Bush "Ranger" and recently the ambassador to Ireland, who has so far bundled more than $200,000 for the President's re-election campaign. Over the past year Egan and his wife have given $35,000 to the Republican National Committee and thousands more to the party's congressional candidates—so Egan's primary goal in donating $2,000 to Nader was probably not a return to Dublin as Nader's ambassador.

Another prominent Nader Republican is the conservative comedian and game-show host Ben Stein. His purposes, too, seem clear. In February the Bush campaign was forced to issue Stein a refund check after his donations exceeded the legal limit. Spotting an alternative, Stein sent Nader $1,000.

39. So, aside from dipshits like Stein, you're here to tell us that a whopping 4% of Nader money raised
comes from Republicans?

Four percent, huh? And that is supposed to support your little statement above about -- what was it --

"Ralph Nader was, and is, working for the Republicans."

Four fucking percent, huh? I still can't believe I am reading this here.

Four fucking percent. I mean, that statement quoted above is essentially a lie and a smear appearing on these boards.

8. Wow what a chillingly apt synopsis of his campaign
and since Brett Favre is so much in the news, a story

Favre was known as "Country Time" when he was on the Atlanta Falcons roster (yes he was not always a Packer) this in the time of Deon Sanders who was known as "Prime Time"

Favre should have been called "Miller Time" because he racked up more bar bills than snaps from center

Favre missed the team photo one year. YES he MISSED THE TEAM PHOTO

When he finally got to practice he told then Coach Jerry Glanville, "Sorry Coach, there was a car wreck"

Glanville snapped back "You ARE a car wreck!!!"

Apply that to McCain

Politics ARE tough. According to the punctuation Leiberman and an aide were driving the bus. They're missing a coma to make that a list.

25. Grammar Nazi at your service
Actually, the punctuation without the second comma is acceptable (though I was taught differently and would have put a comma after Lieberman) but leaves the meaning ambiguous as numerous people have pointed out. A good writer would have been taught long ago how to WRITE to avoid ambiguities of this sort. There's not really any easy way to punctuate one's way out of this mess; the sentence should have been rewritten for clarity because even with a second comma, it could be read as if there were only two people aboard: the driver, Lieberman, (the driver -- Lieberman --) and the aide. Space considerations may have been a factor, but a good editor with sufficient time to edit could have reconstructed it as "The driver and two passengers, Sen. Joe Lieberman and an aide, were unhurt" or something like that.

However, "They're missing a coma to make that a list" contains an inadvertent pun, since there are many of us who think McCain has been in a coma for a long time. . . . .

28. Well, this grammar Nazi is having a lot of fun with your post.
It's Nazis, not Nazi's.

Politics is tough is perfectly grammatical. "Politics" is a singular noun, like "congeries" and "kudos". There is no such thing as a "politic" (or a "congerie" or a "kudo" either, for that matter).

I do tend to put a comma before "and" in a list, but according to many sources, it's not essential.

"Missing a coma"?

42. Actually there is such a thing as a politic and it's an adjective.
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/politic">Politic

There actually is a singular form. But because most Americans find it to be linguistically untenable. They tend to misuse politics as a singular. But I tend to agree that politics is more fluid than politic and rolls off the tongue easier.

45. We're talking about a noun here, though. And adjectives don't have "number" in quite the same way as
nouns do -- not in English, anyway. You can't pluralize them. Politics, in this case especially, is a singular noun. Check out the definition of "politics" in the same source you linked.
