Source: Reuters

"We heard statements saying that the Russian railroad troops that entered Abkhazia a couple of months ago were there for a humanitarian mission," he told journalists at the airport.

It is hardly a surprise that Russia does too. From the majority of my reading, the Georgian president initiated this action, so it seems disingenuous to claim the Russians planned it all along. They may well be taking advantage of a stupid move by their rivals, though.

10. This new debacle will only help the MIC.
With the ME cash cow coming to an end, I'm sure they are more the willing to see this conflict expand.

12. Russia may have had a plan, but they had no trigger
Edited on Mon Aug-11-08 11:44 AM by 14thColony
Until Saakashvili decided to go into South Ossetia guns a-blazing. Talk about giving Russia a casus belli - all it lacked was gift-wrapping and a bow. Did Saakashvili seriously think Russia would not use that as their trigger, especially when the vast majority of South Ossetians are ethnic Russians and Russian Army troops in South Ossetia were directly in the line of fire? Was he nuts?!
