Pelosi indicates openness to offshore drilling vote
Source: The Hill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Monday night dropped her staunch opposition to a vote on offshore oil drilling in the House.

Republicans, reacting to high gas prices, have demanded a vote on additional oil exploration in the Outer Continental Shelf, where drilling is currently blocked by a moratorium. Until now, Pelosi (D-Calif.) has resisted the idea as a “hoax.” But in an interview on CNN’s Larry King Live, she indicated that she was open to a vote.

“They have this thing that says drill offshore in the protected areas,” Pelosi said. “We can do that. We can have a vote on that.”

She indicated such a vote would have to be part of a larger package that included other policies, like releasing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which she said could bring down prices in a matter of days.

“But it has to be part of something that says we want to bring immediate relief to the public and is not just a hoax on them,” Pelosi continued.

She even indicated that she might support a package that includes drilling. She said her decision on whether to support such legislation would depend on how the policies are packaged.

5. Considering that we have Lieberman up there...
and LOTS of neo-lib (neo-con) "dems"...

We have a ways to go before we can consider that we've "taken control" of anything.

Lots of cleaning up to do in this party. All the neo-lib/con dems have to go. All of them.

9. Actually, her willingness to compromise on offshore drilling is exactly the same as Obama's
It would appear that she is following his lead already.

12. They both have to comprimise because this seems to be an issue
that will make or break the election. I don't think they mean drilling in the Artic....isn't it just the area's off shore and on land that are already leased?

17. I call bullshit. sorry. This issue will not amke or break the election. It is a fake
issue. the answer to high gas prices is plug-in hybrids and solar energy. And many toher things. offshore drilling is ONLY for Exxon, not for us. And it will kill off more of our oceans in the process.

25. I totally agree with you but i also want Obama in office more
than anything! He's talking about doing something to temporarily help out (we all know that drilling won't kick in for years and the reserves he's talking about releasing will only help briefly). But when he gets into office I believe he will do everything to advance alternative energy sources to get us into this century (compared to Europe). He's got to play the game because if 70% of all americans think we should be drilling now this IS a huge issue for the election. We all know that the gas prices were inflated by the repubs to get to off shore drilling before Bush is out of office. Let Obama play their game-he'll win!

16. Long Beach is not San Francisco
Long Beach and San Francisco may be in the same state, but they are far from each other. If they were on the East Coast, there would be one or two (possibly more) states in between them. While Rep. Pelosi may be aware of the problem in Long Beach, it's not likely to affect whether or not her constituents vote for her.

But if you live in San Francisco, and it does bother you, you can always vote for Cindy Sheehan in November!

24. The Pelosi Solution

If each and every one of us that disapprove of her continued reticence to uphold her Constitutional Duties simply send Cindy Sheehan $1.00 for her bid to unseat Pelosi...

That is the only way to fire this worthless employee...

To use her position, which we have agreed to pay for holding and PERFORMING, to shill her book is, in and of itself repugnant and proof positive that she serves only one master, her own best interests.
