ICC prosecutor says may probe Georgia violence

DAKAR, Aug 12 (Reuters) - International Criminal Court Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo has been contacted about the conflict in Georgia's breakaway province of South Ossetia and may launch a preliminary investigation, he said on Tuesday.

"We have started to receive communications on this," Moreno-Ocampo told Reuters by telephone from The Hague. Asked if he would be launching a preliminary investigation, he said: "It is a possibility". He gave no further details.

1. This is a good thing, if it actually happens.
Is either side committing war crimes?

There might be a case against Georgia for what is described as the indiscriminate shelling of the South Ossetian capital city. Early reports were that the city was flattened and 1500 were killed. I don't know if that's true.

Has Russia done anything like that? I've seen some apartment buildings hit, but they were beside a Georgian tank base, could have been accidental...

2. Russia seriously fucked this up
I hope all of those fuckers land in the Hague along with Bush and his cronies. The US set the example for powerful countries thinking they can invade sovereign states and act like colonial overloads in the 21st century. It would be doubly bad if Russia gets away with it too.
