CINCINNATI -- Former Ohio congressman Bob Ney is scheduled for release Saturday from a halfway house after serving his time in connection with a public corruption scandal.

Ney, a Republican who served six House terms, has served nearly a year and a half of his original 2 1/2 years prison sentence. The sentence was reduced after he completed treatment for alcohol problems, and a federal prisons Web site shows Aug. 16 as his release date.

Ney, 54, was transferred in February from the Federal Corrections Institution in Morgantown, W.Va., to Cincinnati for placement in a halfway house as a transition to freedom. Prison authorities have declined to identify the halfway house.

Messages were left Tuesday with the corrections management office here and with an attorney for Ney.

It's the treatment. One carrot they use to keep prisoners disciplined is to offer "good time", time knocked off your sentence for participating in drug or alcohol programs, going to school, certain jobs, etc.

You can earn so many days per month in each category, and some or all that has been earned to date, can be taken away for infractions.

Come on, Abramoff, surely there's something MORE on Ney to put him away a LONG time.
