The Iraqi government has told Sky News Online that it hopes to host the Olympic Games one day
Source: SKY News

"Without doubt, as Iraq emerges from the ashes of the past, it will very soon be able to compete for Summer Games," Iraq's National Security Advisor Mowaffak al Rubaie said.

His optimistic words came as two of the four Iraqi Olympians in Beijing prepare for their last event.

...

"The Iraqi people and government are extremely proud of you. You have our blessings and best wishes for success in your competition," he said.

"Let the whole world know that Iraq is back as a functioning democracy and member of the international community."

1. Iraq will never be free of radiation from amerikkkan depleted uranium.
The "pollution" in Iraq makes China seem like a mountain meadow.

Not only no Olympics, but no population will be able to survive there.

9. What?
I haven't seen any issues concerning a radiation risk. DU is a health risk if you're in the vicinity of rounds impacting due to the particles. But typically if you're that close, you're probably going to get killed by the impacts. You act as though the whole country is bathed in nuclear waste...it's quite survivable here.

10. There is electricity here
Fly over Baghdad at night and it's lit like a Christmas tree. There are still some rolling power outages, but these are gradually being rectified. It seems sometimes it's just out of habit..they still turn the power off to our office at 3pm sometimes because "that's the way it used to be".

7. Good question.
I'd rather hold them in Iran. An Iranian hasn't competed against an Israeli in about 30 years. I wonder if they could deny them then.

6. Not likely any time soon, but Iraq has three times the population of Greece
and would have the wealth if the government is ever able to govern the country effectively.

8. I say Sudan should host it. Why not? They already gave it to China without blinking an eye.
There are obviously no moral considerations when the IOC chooses the hosting country.
