Rep. Tubbs Jones Unconscious in Cleveland Hospital
Source: foxnews.com

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, one of Hillary Clinton's biggest supporters during the primaries, remained unconscious Wednesday in a Cleveland area hospital after being transported there Tuesday night.

MyFOXCleveland reports that Tubbs Jones' car veered off the side of the road Tuesday night. Police found her unconscious behind the wheel.

A hospital spokeswoman said family members requested that no other information on the Cleveland Democrat be released. Tubbs Jones' spokeswoman Nicole Williams said she has "no information" about the incident "at this time."

The 58-year-old Tubbs Jones became the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress when she was elected in 1998. She is serving her fifth term in Congress.

7. not just Congress anybody can have this happen to them
you can have a weak spot in a blood vessel and one minute you are
fine and the next minute pow you have a stroke.

Her loss of consciousess is not a good sign .... unless the hospital is keeping
her that way for medical reasons.

Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, D-Ohio, is reported to have suffered an aneurysm and is not expected to recover, according to CBS affiliate WOIO in Cleveland.

WOIO also reported that the congresswoman is on life support at this time. The congresswoman's office would not confirm the report.

The station reported today that she was transported overnight to Huron Hospital in Cleveland after police found her in her car last evening.

Tubbs Jones was first elected in 1998, becoming the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress. She represents Ohio's 11th district.

32. The latest...
http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2008/08/tubbs_jones_is_stable_office_s.html

"U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones' condition has stabilized after suffering an aneurysm, her office said Wednesday.

"At the present time Rep. Tubbs Jones condition has stabilized and she is receiving the best care available," Nicole Williams said.

People at the hospital had a grim outlook, however. Cleveland Councilman Roosevelt Coats sobbed and said Tubbs Jones was unconscious, and that her friends were preparing for the worst."

God bless this strong, amazing woman!

Wish she was my rep! (I have Latourette-puke!)

My father, grandfather, and great grandfather all passed of abdominal aneurysms. I hope Ms. Tubbs-Jones the very best.

EDIT: Why are all the news people saying she "suffered" an aneurysm? You don't "suffer" aneurysm. I may have an aneurysm now and not know it until it bursts. THAT'S when you suffer, when it BURSTS.

It's got to be heartbreaking for Hillary too (I'm not trying to frame this in terms of Hillary, just hear me out). First the head of the Arkansas Democratic party, a friend of hers was murdered, now this; it's got to be devastating. And I feel horribly for Representative Tubbs Jones' family. I've always liked her too. I didn't realize that she was the first black Congresswoman from Ohio. This is crushing news.

Ohio station: Tubbs Jones may be taken off life support
By Jared Allen
Posted: 08/20/08 12:41 PM

After suffering a massive aneurysm while behind the wheel Tuesday night in Cleveland, Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-Ohio) is in grave condition and may be taken off of life support as early as this afternoon, according to WOIO in Cleveland.

Tubbs Jones was “for all intents and purposes dead when they brought her into the hospital” Tuesday night, the station reported in a breaking news update that interrupted regular morning programming.

The station, reporting from outside Huron Hospital in East Cleveland, where Tubbs Jones was brought Tuesday night, said her condition was “grave.” The report also indicated that life support could be “withdrawn sometime afternoon.”

Tubbs Jones’s office released a statement earlier Wednesday saying the congresswoman had suffered an aneurysm and described her condition as stable.

Her office could not be reached to confirm WOIO reports that her life is in immediate jeopardy.

42. I posted this on the Ohio forum, where I am from, but I think it's okay to share
the image of her in my mind at the moment,

when she gave a keynote address at the last Democratic National Convention and she was just beaming and so proud, but so very aware of her roots and her mission.

Some of you may remember her as the Platform Chair last time around as well. She was superb in that role.

I am just so sad for her and all the people who had the privilege to work with her.

On the heels of the death of long-time City Councilwoman Fanny Lewis (different style from a different time), it is a poignant moment in Cleveland history.

Telling, was a comment, I heard on the news this morning, who would even venture to try and replace her. Noone can fill her shoes.

I am just so very, very sad.

76. She has NOT passed away.
CNN just showed a live press conference from the hospital, and she has not in fact passed away.

I know there are a couple of other threads on this, but I thought I'd add it here, since this is the main story on the DU front page.

94. WKYC Cleveland Clinic: Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones has died
Edited on Wed Aug-20-08 06:19 PM by cal04
- A statement released by the Cleveland Clinic Wednesday evening states that U.S. Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones has died as a result of a brain hemorrhage.

The statement from The Clinic reads: "Throughout the course of the day and into this evening, Congresswoman Tubbs Jones' medical condition declined. Medical doctors and neurosurgeons from Huron Hospital and Cleveland Clinic sadly report that at 6:12 p.m. Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones died. She dedicated her life in public service to helping others and will continue to do so through organ donations. Please keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time."

At an earlier press conference, Dr. Gus Kious, president of Huron Hospital, told the media that Tubbs Jones suffered a brain aneurysm in an inaccessible part of her brain but remained in critical but stable condition. The aneurysm burst causing Tubbs Jones' brain to hemorrhage.
