US Rep. Tubbs Jones of Ohio dies after hemorrhage

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) — A Cleveland Clinic official says Democratic U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones of Ohio has died.

Clinic spokeswoman Eileen Sheil says Tubbs Jones died at 6:12 p.m. Wednesday after suffering a brain hemorrhage caused by an aneurysm that burst and left her with limited brain function.

The 58-year-old Tubbs Jones was the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress and a strong critic of the Iraq war. She suffered the hemorrhage while driving her car in her east side district Tuesday evening.

She died at age 58 after her political party raised the social security collecting age for younger people up to 67 (and counting). They even helped see to it that George W. Bush's initiative to enable us to have private accounts that we can pass on to our loved ones if we die early like Stephanie Tubbs has just done NEVER even got voted on in Congress. We're supposed to miss this elected official? I won't miss Teddy Kennedy either.

"Throughout the course of the day and into this evening, Congresswoman Tubbs Jones' medical condition declined. Medical doctors and neurosurgeons from Huron Hospital and Cleveland Clinic sadly report that at 6:12 p.m. Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones died.

She dedicated her life in public service to helping others and will continue to do so through organ donations.

EAST CLEVELAND -- A Cleveland Clinic spokeswoman says U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones has died.

The Clinic released a statement just before 7 p.m. which said the congresswoman's condition since suffering a brain aneurysm and hemorrhage had declined throughougt the day. Rep. Tubbs Jones was pronounced dead at 6:12 p.m.

The clinic statement continues as follows: "She dedicated her life in public service to helping others and will continue to do so through organ donations. Please keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time."

At an earlier press conference, Dr. Gus Kious, president of Huron Hospital, where the congresswoman was treated, told the media that Tubbs Jones suffered the brain aneurysm in an inaccessible part of her brain. The aneurysm burst causing Tubbs Jones' brain to hemorrhage. Kious said Tubbs Jones was left with limited brain function as a result.

This is so sad. She was a wonderful and highly intelligent person and the antithesis of the do-nothing U.S. Rep.

Does anyone remember her as one of the earliest featured Reps on Colbert's "Better Know A District"? She was one of the first who got that he was doing an act, and completely bought into it and came off as warm and charming.

54. Such a gracious lady, may she rest in peace. My thoughts are
with her family, this is a shocking way to go and terrible for the family. I know, I lost my husband the same way June 27th. The doctors told me it was quick and without pain. I pray it is so for all who meet this sudden death. There are hardly any words that can convey enough heartfelt sympathy for the family.

She was a great lady.

We might be different shades, but I would have been proud to have her as my sister. So many good things about her that paralleled mine. Logic, smarts, calling a spade, a spade. She was so right about so many things. What an amazing woman.
