Baby starved 'to fulfil Christian prophecy'

Taunton, Massachusetts - A jury in began deliberating on Monday whether a woman accused of starving her baby to death to fulfil a religious prophecy was a willing participant or was victimised by her husband and the sect they belonged to.

A prosecutor said in closing arguments that the real victim was Karen Robidoux's baby, Samuel, who died in 1999 just days shy of his first birthday.

"Karen Robidoux made a choice," assistant district attorney Walter said in the Taunton Superior Court. "She chose her husband and her faith over the life of her child."

Defence attorney Joseph Krowski countered that Robidoux "suffered a psychological battery of unparallelled proportions".

Ive seen this kind of story wayyyyyyyyyyy too many times in the press lately. Extremist religious fantasies combined with overt illiteracy . Terrifying and cruel.

I have a hard time figuring out these fundies. Its ok to take the life of a live, viable human being but its a sin to take the non-life of a non viable fetus.

When you ask someone why YHWH (Yahweh) 'killed' so many innocent humans beings in the old canon: ... You may get the answer that YHWH 'knew' that those human beings were evil, and deserved their cruel fate ...

it's ok to starve, slap, kick, torture, and even KILL your children. Pro-life up until birth. Then if some goddamned pastor says "starve your baby, God told me you should" they go and do it.

My wife and I lost our first child (a baby son) to a rare bleeding disorder, and we love our daughter more than words can say. Yet we are pro-choice, which the repukes we know cannot understand. We love these kids EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE BEEN BORN! Duh!!!

And my right-wing inlaws read Dobson's "focus on the family" newsletter that says we should be slapping our 18-month old girl if she won't pray.

The mental mutilation which accompanies a steady diet of violence, suspicion, hatred, and fear is devastating.

These people can only harm those who are dependent upon them, as in weak, helpless. I believe they are actually afraid of life, itself, only feeling safe in the presence of others just like them.

Dobson stated this in his newsletter? Any way to make it public? At Christmas I was around my southern bapt missionary BIL and SIL and they were spanking(bottom) and slapping(hands) their 12 mo little girl. I swear if Dobson or some other dreg said she needed to bind her feet they'd do it. :mad:

giving birth triggers chemicals in you head to make you attached to your baby. i dont understand how she could suppress instinct to feed/comfort her child to let him starve for 2 months.

I believe she has been convicted of assault and battery. She was charged with 2nd degree murder.

I have followed this case for a long time, as this is not the first child to die in this cult.

I really believe she was totally brainwashed and had no choice. She did not likely have any say whatsoever on what, or even if her child was fed, and, typically of battered women, was powerless to leave and/or report it.

She has undergone a de-programming since and is now able to think and behave like a human again.
