Calif. first lady Maria Shriver quits NBC

DAVID BAUDER
Associated Press

NEW YORK - Maria Shriver quit NBC News on Tuesday, saying it would be too tough to juggle a journalism job with her duties as first lady of California.

Shriver, a "Dateline NBC" reporter, said she will continue to work on specials connected to her children's books for other NBC properties.

1. Not to mention the gigantic conflict of interest it might cause
if she had to cover hubby's Gubernatorial career or the Gropinator charges.

4. Yes, but don't you think this should still
stay under LBN for those who use this forum as a resource and would miss the earlier thread under Media?

Okay?

9. Yes she is a Kennedy
but what pisses me off is that right wingers are using that fact in order to somehow hype Arnolds competence and credibility.

Maria is a huge disappoinment to me, for no other reason than supporting Arnold through his gropenator charges, and helping him attack his accusers.

10. yes she is Joseph Kennedy's granddaughter
daughter of Eunice Kennedy Shriver and an apparent anoxeric, etc. (you must be a lot of bizarre things to be married to Schwartenazi!).

No loss here - just a sell-out IMO!!!

14. nope....
Arnold wasn't born in the USA. He doesn't qualify for the Presidency.

16. Ah, but you forget one little detail...
Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), a "close, personal friend" of Ah-nuld's, has proposed a Constitutional amendment to eliminate that clause from the eligibility criteria:

...on July 10, 2003, Orrin Hatch, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, took action against what he calls "an anachronism that is decidedly un-American." He introduced a bill that would allow a person who has been a U.S. citizen for 20 years and a resident for 14 years to run for president. Schwarzenegger recently celebrated his 20th year as a U.S. citizen, though employees of the Senate Judiciary Committee, where the bill currently stands, says the birth of Hatch's bill had nothing to do with the political aspirations of the Austrian-born muscleman. ...

"The Arnold Amendment"
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/10/24/opinion/main579874.shtml

Of course, passing a Constitutional amendment is a difficult, slow process, but this one could conceivably be pushed through in record time (if not by 2008, then by 2012); as the immigrant population grows, so grows support for such an amendment.

Which is neither good nor bad; I personally can't think of a single reason to continue denying naturalized citizens the right to run for president. I do, however, hate the timing of this proposal.

Her heartbreaking stories about cats in trees were the backbone of the Fourth Estate.

Also reeling: the diet supplement market. Sell your shares now.
