Ex-generals convicted of killing Argentine senator
By MAYRA PERTOSSI

An Argentine court convicted two former generals on Thursday for the murder of a senator during the country's seven-year military dictatorship and sentenced them to life in prison.

Retired Gens. Antonio Bussi and Luciano Menendez were found guilty of kidnapping, torturing and murdering Sen. Guillermo Vargas Aignasse.

Vargas Aignasse disappeared on the day of a March 24, 1976 military coup. The military later said it had released him from prison, but he was never seen again.

Judge Gabriel Casas referred to the generals' actions as "crimes against humanity." He read the verdict to cheers from the courtroom audience in the country's northern Tucuman province, where the victim served as senator.

You've done a heck of a job, boys.

1. Some Argentines told me they had more generals per capita..
than any other country.

I am so proud of them for bringing justice after so long a wait. I hope that we someday will bring justice to our criminals.

2. It's nice to see the rare moment when justice prevails, however long it took.
Remember their many victims...

4. Those articles leave alot out-
There is more info here-

and here-

More on the "Dirty War" from our own national security archives-

The National Security Archive at George Washington University today published declassified U.S. documents showing that "the Argentines received mixed signals from us on human rights, in effect giving the the impression that it had carte blanche to pursue terrorism," in the mid 1970's, and that in order to convince the Argentine military of Washington's commitment to human rights, "there must be cooperation from DOD and CIA."

http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB85/

and Kissinger's message-

KISSINGER TO ARGENTINES ON DIRTY WAR:
"THE QUICKER YOU SUCCEED THE BETTER"

Newly declassified documents show Secretary of State
gave green light to junta, Contradict official line that
Argentines "heard only what wanted to hear."

While military dictatorship committed massive
human rights abuses in 1976, Kissinger advised
"If you can finish before Congress gets back, the better."

1976...how timely....notice how the articles for the most part skirt around those facts.

I wonder why the articles don't mention that supporters of these military junta's are walking around free and stumping for future presidents:( they leave so much out...
