Companies make lots of pink-slip plans in January

Planned job cuts in January were 26% higher than in December because of increases in offshore outsourcing and mergers that have made some positions redundant, global outplacement firm Challenger Gray & Christmas reported Tuesday.

Post-holiday job cut plans reached 117,556 in January, surpassing the 100,000 threshold for the first time since October.

1. This is a big story

I heard this mentioned briefly on only two occassions after having CNBC on for eight hours yesterday. The first mention was by the house economist who just mentioned the headline. The second mention was by an invited commentator who said that the trend of outsourcing jobs to the detriment of American employment would be getting worse not better in the future. I believe he used the word accelerating.

So American big corporate don't want to pay American taxes and they don't want to employ skilled American labor, they just want to market their products here using the infrastructure that we pay for.
