Experts Helping Palin Brush Up on Foreign Policy(Including Lieberman)

ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 4 -- Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman is among several national security experts helping brief Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin on foreign policy issues as she prepares to hit the campaign trail while cramming for a debate with her Democratic opponent, Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (Del.), in less than a month, according to officials from Sen. John McCain's campaign.

Lieberman, who was the 2000 Democratic vice presidential nominee but is now an independent, has helped introduce Palin to officials of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the leading pro-Israel lobby. In a meeting Tuesday, the day before she delivered her prime-time address at the Republican National Convention here, Palin assured the group of her strong support for Israel, of her desire to see the United States move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and of her opposition to Iran's aspirations to become a nuclear power, according to sources familiar with the meeting.

The exchange offered a brief glimpse into the views of the one-term governor of Alaska, who has virtually no record on foreign policy and has not traveled extensively outside the United States. As governor, she made two foreign trips last summer, one of which was to Canada. On the second, sponsored by the Pentagon, she traveled to Kuwait and Germany -- and made a short stop at a "military outpost" in Iraq -- to visit members of the Alaska National Guard deployed there, according to Palin spokeswoman Maria Comella. Comella added that Palin may have visited Mexico on a personal trip.

Campaign officials and McCain foreign policy advisers called Palin a quick study who has sound judgment that will serve her in good stead on national security issues. But privately, some in the GOP foreign policy establishment voiced concern that McCain has turned to a relative neophyte on national security matters at a time when the United States is facing challenges ranging from wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to the nuclear activities of Iran and North Korea.

Dems need to cut him out of everything in the Senate and stick his office in the sub-sub-sub basement if they have one!

And the Jews for Jesus speech where she was in attendance at her church needs to be rolled out.

Let me tell you something. I warned my sister -in-law not vote for Joe L. i didn't I knew he was a trader to his own party. He is. my husband use to deliver papers to him. my husband said he never tipped well. What a disgrace he is. I am a shame that he comes from my state. That is right Kick him Out of here. Let him get comfort with his new party. Independent doesn't mean he can play with both parties.

6. They've gone from claiming she already had the experience to her now being a "quick study"
who is being tutored by so-called foreign policy expert Lieberman and other Bush people (from another article)

less than a month to prepare for a debate with Biden? LMAO

She'll repeat right wing talking points in-between personal attacks - which will go over well with their base. They will cheer the personal attacks, and since the only thing their base knows about an issue is the bullshit talking points (that have been constantly repeated) and nothing else, they'll think she knows what she is talking about.

Biden will make Palin look like the fool she is...he will expose her ignorance on the issues. And to those viewers concerned about the issues, Biden will be the clear winner.

Still...never underestimate stupidity in America

Or how "wonks" scare a lot of people....because that's what the right wing will be relying on...those Americans who consider themselves informed after Fox and Rush tells them what to think...and Palin's handlers want people to see her as "one of us".....regular people, straight talking to the talking point... and golly gee, she sure does love God and America.

Sarah Palin is a joke..a walking, talking, breathing caricature of the god, gun, and fetus nationalistic right wing religious wacko....but not all jokes are funny.

8. Dot be so sure...
Biden can easily come off as ripping mercilessly into that sweet little hockey mom.

Palin locks up The Base, but most of The Base was going to hold their noses and vote for McCain in the first place. She hasn't made any big inroads into actual independent voters.

And the notion that PUMA supporters will vote for someone just for having a hole between the legs...LMAO...

9. Oh, to be sure... I never said otherwise
Edited on Fri Sep-05-08 02:19 AM by Solly Mack
They will most certainly see any policy issue attack as Biden attacking Palin personally. I fully expect them to...that's how they operate.

But to thinking people who are concerned about the issues...Biden won't come off looking that way.

That's just how the right will frame it

As to women who would vote for McCain because they are upset over Clinton not being the candidate?

Idiots

They can't count on her hair covering her ears for the entire debate. I'd like to see the podiums enclosed in a Faraday cage to prevent radio reception.

13. Dems really need to take the offensive on her ignorance
It has absolutely nothing to do with whether the VP candidate is male or female. On-the-job cramming and tutoring is not what we need in this -- to quote the Rethugs -- "post-9/11 world"!!!

14. Hahahahahahahahahaha! "Brush up" on foreign policy.
Like she used to know a whole lot about it, but forgot? I guess her vast knowledge fell into disuse during her hockey mom years. No worries! Foreign policy, it's just like riding a bike. It comes back to you really quick! Especially when you're a person with executive experience.

16. Sad truth....
The sad truth is, far-right conservatives have this incredible knack of picking people so inarguably unqualified/unsuited to the task that 'the people just might be stupid enough to buy it'. And it works. I mean, in the lead-up to 2000, the rest of the world saw that Bush was downright moronic and just couldn't believe this guy would be seen to pass for presidential material.

That's what concerns me most about conservatives...they just seem to get away with this garbage time and again. What we need is what happened in the '60s...moderates got righteous and actually demanded change 'or else'. That's the only way the anti-social scourge of neo-conservativism can be stopped.

PBS and NPR are no better than NBC ABC CBS FOX CNN.

Biden is going to have to walk a very delicate line. Facts delivered without punches thrown against her personally. Stick with what he can do, not what she can't do. Stick with what DEMs will do and what Repubs can't talk about because they don't know or the know and they are afraid to tell us.

His humor must be thought out so as not to ridicule her.

He cannot assume that people will know what he's accomplished. He's got to work it in and relate it to today.

There are parts of her background that must be exposed and flaunted - turning surplus into debt for one - just like Republicans do.

If I see Biden and Lieberman in any setting loving it up - it's all over for me.
