Obama clings to narrow Michigan lead, poll says

WASHINGTON – In the wake of the Republican convention, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama appears to be clinging to the narrowest of leads in battleground Michigan
Public Policy Polling of Raleigh North Carolina polled 1,147 likely Michigan voters over the
weekend and found Obama holds a 47-46 edge over Republican nominee John McCain – well within the margin of error of three percentage points.
Is it a bounce from the convention or McCain’s surprising pick of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate? From the data, it appears that the Palin pick is clearly helping McCain in the race against Obama in Michigan – a state the Republican hopes to pick up in order to beat the Democrat.

2. It's all crumbling, guys.
Hey, this is what happens when you don't try to win. We should be attacking CONTINUALLY. We should be being as negative as possible. Look at what has worked with the public: Palin attacked the shit out of us (though none of it was true with exception of the Energy Bill criticism) and it yielded results with the public.

From now until the day after the election, we should not say a SINGLE nice thing about the opponents.

We also need to address her attacks head-fucking-on. We need to tell the truth: they are only running against the Republicans (being a maverick) because it's the fashionable thing to do, but their policies are going to be the same as Bush, the Democrats didn't do anything because they don't have a strong enough majority (or even a majority at all) in the Senate, we need to NAIL McCain on his voting records, we need to have surrogates nailing Palin about the affair and other personal shit, we need to bring up her corruption on the substance, we need to FUCKING KILL McCain on all of his ridiculous flip-flops.

Goddamnit. I'm so tired of complete fucking pussies representing us. They aren't trying to fucking win. We are looking at the fucking apocalypse if McCain gets elected (or selected through election theft).

33. I feel your frustration
but my anger is directed towards right-wing websites like CNN.COM and USATODAY.COM who pretend to be impartial, all the while giving their front page headlines to McCain and Palin.

Obama can say all you want him to say, but if M$M doesn't report it, is it heard? If I were a stranger coming to this country, for the past week, I would have no idea who the Democratic candidate was by visiting CNN.COM or USATODAY.COM. For seven straight days, I've seen nothing but headlines about Backwoods Barbie and Gramps.

Case in Point: On Friday, CNN.COM had a headline on their front page 'McCain will bring Democrats into his administration'. Now, usually those headlines move down the page as the hours pass, and after about six hours they're replaced with newer headlines. This particular headline stayed up *the entire weekend*, in fact, it had moved down on Saturday, only to move up again by Sunday night, which is a heavy traffic time, and it was still there on Monday morning. And of course, the purpose of the headline was to give the impression that, 'Hey moderate Democrats, it's OK to vote for McCain, you'll be represented in McCain's administration.

So Obama is not just fighting the RNC, he also has to contend with a M$M. Obama vs. McCain and RNC? KO in the first round, but throw the M$M into the mix, and I have my doubts if we will ever see a Democratic president again.

37. Agree 100%
Taking the high road doesn't win elections. EVER. Ask Dukakis, Gore, or Kerry. Surrogates need to attack every day. And a new attack on a different front every few days to keep them off balance, on the defensive and prevent them from attacking Obama with lies.

5. I disagree with you.....
the "seniors" are still going to go out and vote for McCain. Most of these guys have nothing better to do (I know - the guy across the street from me sits in his driveway smoking cigars and listening to Limpballs turned up so loud I have to hear it). Seniors vote. That's a fact. And they will vote for them because this "woman" has been portrayed as a good old boy who hunts and is pro-NRA, etc.

If you're in Michigan like me, do not get complacent. Talk up Obama. Let people know who you're voting for.

10. It's STILL about
the economy and about who has the better ground game. If Obama can continue to connect with people regarding their economic woes and propose some solutions, and if the boots on the ground continue to register new voters and keep the enthusiasm going, we'll get Michigan.

14. It could be two things causing this.
First, Obama when he was first campaigning made some statements regarding the auto industry last year.

Remember that? It was very coolly received by those listening.

In addition, weren't a lot of Michigan voters quite upset about not having their votes fully counted when their Democratic primaries were happening?

This could be that residual resentment still affecting Michigan voters' views about Obama.

19. McSame and Romney made more comments that pissed people in the state off..
Michigan voters are receiving all candidates coolly these days my friend because none of them have been doing a goddamn thing for this state for over 8 years.

Democrats in Michigan are over the whole primary vote thing. We have bigger fish to fry. There is no residual resentment of the primary but there is a boatload toward Washington and Bush for the state of Michigan's economy which has been worse that the rest of the country for 8 years. None of them have talked about the importance of Michigan's economy to the rest of the country. Guess we're not Bear-Stearns enough for them.

That said, Obama has to show more ad's in Michigan and let people know he wants their vote, will work to make Michigan the state we have all been proud of for a very long time. Make the message more specific to Michigan, talk about the people, the beauty of the state and what the Bush/McSame team has done and will do to it.

30. In the 2004 election....
I said all along to my family (I'm from Ohio originally) that it would all come down to Ohio because the Repugs couldn't steal the same state, Florida, again, so they would corrupt the election in Ohio. This year I'm saying it's all about Michigan, where I now live, and I think it's true. We've got to win Michigan.

25. I am also worried...
Seems like a downward spiral to me if the Dems don't get it together. I have been shocked by their inability to articulate how socially conservative she is and how McCain is McSame and will probably suddenly "fall ill" leaving all the same corrupt evil people in charge.

Remember Bush saying he was a moderate compassionate conservative??? Why aren't they playing those clips??

I must admit though I was very worried when he didn't put aside his personal diffs and select Hillary. Even though she is not my personal fave and I have been a die-hard Obama fan, I think he has made some serious errors lately. Dammit if we have 4 more years of this crap I don't think we are going to survive it! Plus we have 2 seats coming up on the Supreme Court! We may then see Palin's hope of overturning Roe V Wade.

But, the corporate media will then turn the tables and say Biden "attacked" Palin, much like the sighs from Al Gore when Bush was lying during the 2000 debates.

28. Let not your hearts be troubled
Democrat registration=2,000,000 and rising.
GOP registration= 344,000 LOST voters.

I might mention the high % of these newbies with cell phones who are not being picked up in these surveys?

Even if 50% of new Dems go for McPalin, Obama wins. These polls are about 1/3 of the issue. TURNOUT is the big kahuna, and given the way they are constructed, likely voter polls don't capture that. I used to work for a pollster (Peter Hart) so trust me on this.

I refuse to be mind-f**ked by the GOP and its media allies. Keep hope alive people.
