Bush Said to Give Orders Allowing Raids in Pakistan
Source:

WASHINGTON — President Bush secretly approved orders in July that for the first time allow American Special Operations forces to carry out ground assaults inside Pakistan without the prior approval of the Pakistani government, according to senior American officials.

The classified orders signal a watershed for the Bush administration after nearly seven years of trying to work with Pakistan to combat the Taliban and Al Qaeda, and after months of high-level stalemate about how to challenge the militants’ increasingly secure base in Pakistan’s tribal areas.

American officials say that they will notify Pakistan when they conduct limited ground attacks like the Special Operations raid last Wednesday in a Pakistani village near the Afghanistan border, but that they will not ask for its permission. ...

6. Isn't this exactly what Obama has been calling for?
I am not sure it is good policy because I believe it will not help
america's image abroad any more than what Bush* has done to date.

9. So it's OK to disregard other nations if we do it, eh? And killing children and other villagers
has such a GREAT record elsewhere in achieving our objectives, eh? Not to mention it being criminal, inhuman, and utterly evil by any ethical system? American exceptionalism at it's finest. On a day we mourn our own civilian deaths, this is even more reprehensible, if possible.

10. I was watching the news on PBS
yesterday and the reports of the Pakistani people being interviewed were that they are attacking their own people because they are being pressed by the Americans to do something. They area looked like a refugee tent village full of very distress citizens, mostly little kids and women. I wonder how many millions of human beings will have to be displaced, murdered, wounded and grief stricken from the loss of loved ones before the Cheneybush Regime has it's blood lust satisfied. There is so much collateral damage from our drones and the wholesale milityar attack on it's own people. We are paying them to kill each other, in Pakistan and not to kill each other in Iraq.

12. Bush secret order to send special forces into Pakistan
Source: The Guardian

A secret order issued by George Bush giving US special forces carte blanche to mount counter-terrorist operations inside Pakistani territory raised fears last night that escalating conflict was spreading from Afghanistan to Pakistan and could ignite a region-wide war.

The unprecedented executive order, signed by Bush in July after an intense internal administration debate, comes amid western concern that the war against the Taliban in Afghanistan and its al-Qaida backers based in "safe havens" in western Pakistan's tribal belt is being lost.

Following Bush's decision, US navy Seals commandos, backed by attack helicopters, launched a ground raid into Pakistan last week that the US claimed killed about two dozen insurgents. Pakistani officials condemned the raid as illegal and said most of the dead were civilians.

US and Nato commanders are anxious to halt infiltration across the Afghanistan-Pakistan border of insurgents and weapons blamed for casualties among coalition troops. The killing of a US soldier in eastern Afghanistan yesterday brought American losses in 2008 to 112, the deadliest year since the 2001 intervention. The move is regarded as unprecedented in terms of sending troops into a friendly, allied country.

19. It's Obvious....
.... that bush wants to screw every important issue up as much as he can before President Obama takes over. Never forget this: the prime directive for these folks is to destroy government, and privatize all govt. agencies ( for his buds to profit from ).
This has been their aim from day one... and they are still at it. Keep an eye on Israel hitting Iran.... and bush backing them up.
Voila! World War III begins. The "end times" follows. Victory for the fundies, of which bush is one.

And Sarah apparently supports also, though having her support is kind of like having the support of the class fuck up.

22. If and when we know where Osama is I DON'T have a problem with this.
As long as we have made legitimate attempts with Pakastan to have them get the guy. Of course the fact that Bush did it means I actually don't trust it whatsover.

23. Game's on... it's already Obama vs Osama. If bushco manages to catch him, Obama gets credit.
It was his plan, after all. The Obama Doctrine. If your friends won't cooperate in the war on terror on their own turf, they aren't your friends.
