Tens of thousands of Iraqis may come to U.S. in '09
Source:

ASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States has surpassed its goal of admitting 12,000 Iraqi refugees this year and expects more, perhaps tens of thousands, next year, the State Department said on Friday.

The United States expects to admit a minimum of 17,000 Iraqi refugees in fiscal 2009, which begins October 1, the department's senior coordinator for refugees said. Thousands more Iraqis and their family members could arrive through a special visa program for people who worked for the United States or its contractors. ...

2. More than a million Iraqis killed by some reports, now a stream of immigrants: how do we tell the
good guys from the terraists? Come to think of it, maybe there were never Iraqi terrorists so it seems a shame so many Iraqis had to die, be maimed, made homeless, jobless or orphaned. Oh well, war is hell and there will always be collateral damage. :P

3. Its about time - these are people who worked with us who are being murdered
60 minutes has run multiple stories on how the US has put up roadblocks to interpreters and others who have helped the US so they could not emigrate even though they are efficiently being murdered along with their families in Iraq.

8. I hear ya... It's about time they get those people out of there
and over here to safety. Many have been murdered for helping US soldiers, etc. Our govt has been negligent in not speeding up their immigration.

16. I bet the Bush military is sweating bullets over the fact that these interpreters
and former contractors are still alive, let alone wanting to immigrate here. These interpreters and contractors would know a lot about the military's movements, positioning, troop strength etc at particular points in time. Wouldn't be surprised if Bush's military was the source of the leaks that ended up getting many of these former interpreters and contractors murdered. No tinfoil hat needed here--remember Plame?

6. Oooooh, be afraid, be very afraid! They are coming!
Ha ha, I can just hear it now.

A good one to use in response to the "we're fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here" crowd.

The guys son was crippled up and will be in a wheel chair for life from a U.S. air strike. The community at the mosque is working to find him a home for him and his 3 boys.

12. Oh no! (sarcasm) Why do the media like scaring people? Could it be GOP ifluence?
There are many ways to tell the story and headline it.

"US opens doors for more Iraqi Immigrants"
"Bush finally let's Iraqi allies immigrate"

No, they'd rather phrase it to scare the xenophobes.

"TENS OF THOUSANDS OF IRAQI'S MAY COME TO US" they scream in horror.

MAY come?

Honestly, it's embarrassing how propagandized our media is.

peace
