Controversial film on Islam delivered nationwide
Source: The News & Observer

The documentary, "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West," features scenes of Muslim children being encouraged to become suicide bombers, interspersed with those of Nazi rallies. The two-year-old film was produced by Raphael Shore, a Canadian who lives in Israel, and was directed by Wayne Kopping of South Africa.

-snip-

Ross said the DVD was timed to coincide with the seventh anniversary of the terrorist strikes of Sept. 11, 2001. He said it is "purely coincidental" that this September also is the holy month of Ramadan.

-snip-

Its aim is to liken radical Islam to Nazism and to promote the state of Israel, said Omid Safi, a professor of Islamic Studies at UNC-Chapel Hill, who has seen the film several times.

-snip-

The DVD has already been inserted into copies of The New York Times distributed in midwestern states. This weekend and next, it is slated to be distributed in many newspapers in Ohio, Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania and Colorado, in addition to North Carolina.

I note it is being distributed in battleground states of this election. Daniel Pipes is in the fim.

1. This is convenient, NO!?!? This is just going to stir up a lot of negativity.
I suppose, one good thing about it being distributed in news papers is that subscriptions are down.. People cut off the subscriptions first when they are trying to buy milk and gas.

Edited on Sat Sep-13-08 04:07 PM by ohio2007
anyway, from the articles comment section;

Stand by and watch

As Jamieand4 states - like watching Hitler's trainloads of innocent human beings pass, the ordinary people just stood by and watched. They could have done something. Did they know what the outcome would be? The radical Islamists are telling you to your face. We know, by what history has taught us, that we should act on the evidence we have seen and defend ourselves from the inevitable. It is inevitable. It will happen! What are you going to do? Stand by and watch? If you are wise, you will take the appropriate action necessary to stop this craze. If it is war, so be it! Save yourselves and your children. It is better on their soil than ours, don't you think?

snip

What Other Religion does this?

The documentary, "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West," features scenes of Muslim children being encouraged to become suicide bombers.
My questions to all, what other religion tells there adherents to blow them self up killing any and all who are around?
Those who believe in the Orwellian vision that Islam is a "religion of peace" better solve this problem.

Haven't seen it. can't comment on it.

but this group has sounded off about the Clarion Fund and docudrama;

42. I dunno. Willful ignorance is a deliberate act.
Maybe some prefer the easy way out being manipulated buys them? They don't have to think for themselves. They don't have to change. Well nurtured ignorance gives them a sense of security perhaps? You can just exist instead of actively living and nothing is expected from you. So maybe some do know they are being manipulated but since it gives them something in return they don't care?

I'll have to ponder on this some more...

Course, some people truly are ignorant and really don't know any better...I'm just not sure it's a question of all

Papers in OH, IN, MI, PA, CO, IA, FL, WI, NV, NH. Reading who's in it, I'd say it's a neocon-AIPAC&pals propaganda piece to stir up the fear-and-hate gene in "the base." Disgusting.

23. Newspapers Deliver Millions of 'Terror' DVDs to Subscribers -- In 'Swing States'
Source: Editor & Publisher

The arrival of tens of millions of DVDs of a controversial DVD on doorsteps around the nation -- but almost exclusively in election "swing states" -- via newspaper home delivery continues this weekend, with explanatory articles and subscriber feedback appearing on some of the papers' Web sites.

The DVDs of the 60-minute film, made in 2005, and titled "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West," arrived today with, among other papers, the Charlotte Observer and the News & Observer in Raleigh, with delivery with the Miami Herald and other papers set for Sunday.

... It was shown on Fox News just before the 2006 mid-term elections, and conservative activist David Horowitz screened the film on college campuses during 2007. An article at the group's site, www.radicalislam.org, endorsed John McCain as the strongest candidate this past week, then was pulled down.

An article at the site of the Morning-Call in Allentown, Pa. today reveals that it will be inserted in the Sunday paper there tomorrow. It continues: "A call to Clarion wasn't returned, but the nonprofit's spokesman, Gregory Ross, told the Harrisburg Patriot-News this week that 28 million copies of the DVD are being distributed nationwide throughout September. He said the intent is not to sway voters' opinions about the presidential candidates."

44. There is no such thing as bad publicity
"There is no such thing as bad publicity" an old marketing saying, it's pure propaganda but at the same time it promotes Islam even to those who do not own DVD players. 28 million DVDs offering one view on Islam and there are 1,000s of sites, DVDs and books about Islam, including the Koran, that offer other views.

>>it is slated to be distributed in many newspapers in Ohio, Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania and Colorado,
>>in addition to North Carolina.
The small town imams in France and Germany have been complaining these last few years of the big increases in the number of converts to Islam because it is very hard to build larger mosques there - they blame the propaganda for both the increase in new Muslims and their inability to build larger mosques. If I am right about this then the smaller mosques in those states will have the same problem soon.

49. Delivering Propaganda: Local newspapers in swing states paid to distribute film to spread fear
Source: Editor&Publisher

Bundled into my Charlotte Observer on this Saturday morning, and this week into approximately 100 newspapers located overwhelmingly in battleground states across the country, there is a kind of 527-fund contribution to the presidential campaign of John McCain.

Under the cloak of an advertising supplement, a one-hour edition of a DVD entitled “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West” had been attractively packaged and inserted into some 200,000 copies of the McClatchy-owned newspaper. The same happened at the other major McClatchy paper in North Carolina, the Raleigh News & Observer.

Dozens of local newspapers from Altoona to Las Vegas and selected regional editions of the New York Times have been paid to distribute a film designed to spread fear about our national security.

Anyone can see an electoral vote pattern to the targeted areas, with almost all of the battleground or “swing” states represented. (The daily newspapers in only one such state appear to have refused the ad, Minnesota.) These papers have allowed themselves to be caught up in a “neo-con” propaganda scam in the context of the presidential campaign, and during 9/11 week.

As of Saturday, September 13, the rationalizations of the publishers and ad personnel at the two N.C. newspapers were either beggarly excuses for new sources of revenue, or politically naïve in the extreme....

***

All in all, the propaganda campaign is a shameful episode for the Fourth Estate.

56. Just a new cattle car on a very old train
Don't know if you are old enough to remember the Old Time Maazine ads, the ones run during the 1980 campaign cycle. There would be this haunting ballad of "You cry and Time is there, You suffer and Time will share," or some such insipid-ness.

Then the TV footage would roll images of various thing - Neil Armstrong planting his foot on the moon, Reagan looking Presidential, Carter looking spooked as he waves a canoe oar at some rabbit or other woodland creature attacking him.

There were always many more shots of Reagan that Carter, and while Reagan was looking his best, Carter was either fighting off the rabbit or looking very weary.

Not only that but you could get a year's subscription to Time magazine for only $ 9.97. And the subscription gave you a radio alarm clock as its gift offer.

Whenever I saw those ads, and the cheap subscription price, and the gift, I thought about how at that time there was about $ 26 bilion a year slated for black op activities, and I always figured that Time magazine was one of them.

63. For a bit of wasted money . . .
. . . this was actually inserted into copies of the Chronicle of Higher Education. If you think The New York Times is liberal, the Chronicle is positively socialist. And I do mean positively, being one myself.

65. The Clarion Fund and John McCain??
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 12:06 AM by fruntpage1
Just google The Clarion Fund (the group who put out the dvd) and John McCain and you'll find the link. The truth is The Clarion Fund supports and endorses John McCain. I found it surprising at first but soon realized its a sort of scare tactic. I guess they are trying to scare us into voting for John McCain. The Clarion Fund is a non-profit org who supports John McCain, google them yourself!!

66. I hadn't known of the connection. My thinking was along th lines of making a convenient scapegoat...
... for all our problems. All the great and evil propagandists of the 20th century did that -- I think I needn't go into details. More than a workaday scare tactic, apparently this film is designed to whip up hate against a certain group -- fill in the blanks. How sad and horrible that it should be here in our country.

68. They must be a fundy group because clarion are trumpting angels
I've only ever heard it used with the term clarion angels although the dictionary says calrion is self is the sound of a trumpet. There are also clarion angel fish which obviously derrived their named from the clarion angels.
