Gallup Daily: McCain 47%, Obama 45% (".. race now statistically tied.")
Source: Gallup

PRINCETON, NJ -- The latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking results for Sept. 10-12 show the race now
statistically tied, with John McCain at 47% and Barack Obama at 45% among registered voters.

These results, based on interviewing conducted Wednesday through Friday, indicate that the
presidential contest is -- for now, at any rate -- settling back into the close race that it was
before the two weeks that marked both candidates selections of their vice presidential running
mates and the two conventions. In the weekend before the Democratic convention, the race was
tied 45% to 45%. Now, as the "convention dust" is settling, the race is at 47% McCain, 45% Obama,
only slightly different.

Looks like the bloom is off the lipstick. Now that it is becoming apparent that Fibber Sarah has
made little real difference, perhaps her many shortcomings will be more carefully examined by
the press. Without a bounce she's nothing.

1. He's clawing his way back up.
This is about where I imagined it would be a couple of weeks ago, though I imagine he will continue to gain.

3. Bump
Lots of dems crying when McLame took a lead. Palin was a bold pick that may ultimately come back to haunt him. Not sure how she'll do though she seems to have solidified the right (the do as I say not as I do crowd...). I think this is Obama's race to loose. If he can convince a majority that he will make changes and McSame is full of hot air, he will win.

I'm more cynical, I say the media wants a close race so they'll beat up on anyone who looks like they're in the lead. This really seems like a walk over; I don't know anyone I've talked to that's too enamored with the McCain ticket.

4. I said this yesterday.
That McCain's bump is all but vanished now almost a week from Monday when it was it's highest.

I said that by this Monday, it will probably be actually tied 47% each.

7. We need to combat the Republicans based on Sen. Obama's Economic Recovery Plan.
http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/jmccord/gG5ftr

Barack Obama's Plan
Jumpstart the Economy
Enact a Windfall Profits Tax to Provide a $1,000 Emergency Energy Rebate to American Families:Barack Obama will enact a windfall profits tax on excessive oil company profits to give American families an immediate $1,000 emergency energy rebate to help families pay rising bills. This relief would be a down payment on Obama's long-term plan to provide middle-class families with at least $1,000 per year in permanent tax relief.
Provide $50 billion to Jumpstart the Economy and Prevent 1 Million Americans from Losing Their Jobs: This relief would include a $25 billion State Growth Fund to prevent state and local cuts in health, education, housing, and heating assistance or counterproductive increases in property taxes, tolls or fees. Obama’s relief plan will also include $25 billion in a Jobs and Growth Fund to prevent cutbacks in road and bridge maintenance and fund school repair - all to save more than 1 million jobs in danger of being cut.

If Obama's numbers dropped 7 points in a week, every news source in the country would be running banner headlines screaming that he was in "free fall".

Barack Obama under fire for ignoring advice on how to beat John McCain

Barack Obama and his senior advisers are under fire for ignoring the advice of Democratic senators and governors who are concerned that they do not know how to beat John McCain

snip
the Democrat candidate spent too much of the summer enjoying his own popularity and not enough defining his positions on the economy - the number one issue for voters - or reaching out to those blue collar workers whose votes he needs if he is to beat Mr McCain.

Others concede that his trip to Europe was a distraction that enhanced his celebrity status rather than his electability on Main Street, USA.

Since Sarah Palin was unveiled as Mr McCain's running mate, the Obama camp has faced accusations that it has been pushed off message and has been limp in responding to attacks.

snip
The Republican strategist Dan Schnur said that the effect was to repel blue collar, family-oriented voters. "They didn't like Obama in the primaries and voted for Hillary. And they still don't like him now so they're voting for Palin.

"Obama can still win these voters over, but his difficulty in establishing an emotional connection with them is probably his greatest challenge between now and election day."

On Thursday Mr Obama did take advice from Bill Clinton, who is understood to have suggested ways to show those workers that he cares, an area where the former president excelled.

But it is a measure of his plight that the man who derailed the ambitions of Mrs Clinton, the most powerful woman in Democratic politics, now needs help from her husband to overcome the popularity of another alpha female who may be an even greater risk to his White House ambitions.

14. Let's get us some more voters!!! :D
I'm on a mission to get as many people out there to register to vote. At my school's Open House the other night, we handed out voter registration forms. Unfortunately at my school, most of the parents are not citizens of the United States but we try to grab anyone we can. I've even posted a few in my complex so that when people get their mail, they will think to grab a form. Let's get out and do this! :D

23. Precisely, that's why I personally modify Gallup's number to better reflect the real situation.
I add 3 points to the Democratic candidate, and subtract one from the Republican.

So, 47% McCain, 45% Obama is actually 46% McCain, 48% Obama.

20. I agree
Gallup is usually skewed toward the Republicans, so if the race is a statistical tie by their calculations, I'd say it's more like an Obama lead by at least a few percentage points. I think, sadly, the country is too divided and Their Base is so energized by McPalin (and will not admit to the gloss coming off her, no matter what) that the race probably won't be a blowout either way. But, bottom line, if Gallup has McCain's bounce fading, you can bet that it's gone.
