McCain ad slams Obama, Senate Democrats on immigration
Source: CNN

John McCain’s campaign is running a Spanish language ad in battleground states that blames Barack Obama and Senate Democrats for the failure of attempts to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws — even though the Republican nominee and his Democratic counterpart cast identical votes in the key Senate showdowns on that issue last year. ...

... Both men cast votes in favor of an unsuccessful early June effort to end a filibuster. Later that month, they voted again to end debate on the issue – but again failed to shut down the filibuster effort, led for the most part by Republican senators.

The ad will air in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, all crucial fall states with significant Hispanic voting populations.

1. I'm pretty sure that by now most Hispanics know the GOP has welded itself
to the xenophobes and racists.

8. No they don't know it
many people only know what is said in the present moment not something months or years ago. All you have to do is plant the seed and it grows. Even if Obama debunks this it will be useless. All they remember is what McCain said. Obama is a Muslim, will raise taxes, etc. are seeds that have been planted and are still growing. Truth won't cut these plants. They are like dandelions, you can cut off the tops but the roots are still there and the plants will keep coming back time after time.

6. mccain spins like a top on immigration
Edited on Sat Sep-13-08 04:11 PM by BadgerKid
This doesn’t make a lick of sense. On Thursday, McCain was talking to a group of business leaders who liked McCain’s original approach to comprehensive legislation, and the senator sought input on how best to rally support for his own bill (which he now says he’d vote against). On Friday, McCain told opponents of his immigration bill that he didn’t mean any of what he’d just said.

This is more than just a shameless flip-flop; it’s quickly becoming a character flaw. He’ll shovel whichever nonsense he has to say to please which ever audience happens to be in front of him at the time.

For those keeping score at home, McCain does not support “comprehensive immigration reform.”

Yes, he does.

No, he doesn’t.

Yes, he does.

No, he doesn’t.

Yes, he does.

No, he doesn’t.

Nearly all of these, by the way, come from the last six months.

12. Didn't Bush rake in
a really huge portion of the Hispanic vote last time? How does that even happen?

One thing is undeniable: progressives aligned with the Obama campaign are making huge strides this year-- not only toward enfranchising Latin Americans into the Democratic Party, but towards enacting a comprehensive humane immigration reform.

I do some work with America's Voice, and they're really making incredible progress. You should check out this ad calling McCain's bluff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyF3uleiJds
