XinhuaBAGHDAD, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Five Iraqi policemen were killed and five others injured in a simultaneous roadside bomb explosions near their patrol in the volatile province of Diyala on Sunday, an Interior Ministry source said.
The attack took place while the patrol was traveling in the town of al-Saadiya, some 120 km northeast of Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Two of the patrol's vehicles were badly damaged by the blast, the source said.
The incident came as U.S. troops and Iraqi security forces are conducting major offensive against extremist Sunni and Shiite militiamen in Diyala which stretches from the eastern edges of Baghdad to the Iranian border.
