Former vice president Al Gore has sent an e-mail to members of MoveOn.org urging them to donate to three Democratic challengers in close Senate races. The appeal went out to the liberal group's 3.2 million members two days after news broke that Barack Obama would not be sharing his massive fundraising haul with the down-ballot candidates.
Gore's e-mail touted his early endorsement of Obama's candidacy and argued that the Democratic presidential candidate would need more like-minded senators to pursue an agenda aimed at ending the country's addiction to oil.
The subject line of of the e-mail, "Obama's going to need some help," seemed to serve a dual purpose. He'll need more votes in the Senate to overhaul America's energy system, and he also apparently needs some help raising money for other Democrats -- a role MoveOn is ready to fill.
Earlier this week, Politico reported that the Obama campaign, which has about $77 million in the bank, turned down a request from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to share some of its financial largesse with candidates trying to unseat GOP senators in November
