Pakistani troops fire on intruding U.S. choppers
Source: Reuters

Pakistani troops fired on two U.S. helicopters that intruded into Pakistani airspace on Sunday night, forcing them to turn back to Afghanistan, a senior Pakistani security official said on Monday.

It was the second such incident in a week, and reflects frayed relations with the United States over Pakistan's failure to act more forcibly against Islamist fighters in the tribal lands bordering Afghanistan.

The number of missile attacks by U.S. drone aircraft in the remote tribal areas has multiplied in recent weeks.

The helicopters violated the border in the area of Lowara Mandi, 40 km (25 miles) west of Miranshah, the main town in the North Waziristan tribal region, at around 9 p.m. on Sunday, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject.

1. NO borders are sacred to the PNAC gang - THEY own the World, right?
.
.
.

USA is losing face on a daily basis.

Their government/military has NO respect for other countries' sovereignty.

I'm glad I know how to shoot . . .

Sad they're my neighbor . .

(sigh)

2. You can't blame them.
No country can tolerate random cross-border attacks from another country.

3. the Pakistanis are trying to get their country back together after our

interference. they have the right to keep the neo con's military and black ops out of their country.

5. Well duh.
They've been harboring al Queda for years. We should expect them to fight back.

6. The reinforcement of myth
in the collective consciousness of the American public:

"Pakistan's support is regarded as crucial to the success of Western forces trying to stabilise Afghanistan, and in the fight against al Qaeda."

7. Hmmmm. Well, this is all very simple
If you want someone to help you out, you offer them a reward for doing so. Threatening them might work, but you'll pay for it in the long run.

If we want Pakistan to help, breaching their airspace and shooting at things in their territory isn't the way to do it

8. we've BEEN rewarding them for the entire WOT
with billions in aid.

and they've given up trying to reign in the Taliban, much less attack them. in fact, they are seemingly powerless to stop them from any action they want to take within Pakistan: assassinate Bhutto, destroy the Marriot in the center of the capitol hours after the inaguration, etc.

whether its the active collaboration of the ISI, or just incompetence of the Pakistani military, the cross border raids make stability in Afganistan impossible. and Pakistan has nukes.

there is no good solution here. Pakistan is NOT helping because they can't or they won't. we are seen as the enemy in Pakistan the same as we are in Afganistan - unjust foreign oppressors who's defeat is God's top priority. it is Pakistani collaborators that are attacked.

my only suggestion is: don't bother with Mexico, fence the Pakistani/Afgani border. i have no illusions that that will fix shit.

9. My suggestion is to just leave Afghanistan
It's a shitty, shitty thing to do to the Afghan people - but so was demolishing what little bit of a country they had in the first place. We leave, and write them annual reparations checks. Then we don't have to worry about what the shit the Taliban is doing in the northeast.

No use looking for a perfect solution - we won't find one.

10. We haven't been giving THEM money, we've been giving Musharraf money -
and that was our mistake. Bushco felt Musharraf would "keep them in line" -- another venture without any oversight.

11. Strangely enough ...
... Bushco also gave money to Chalibi to keep the Iraqis in line
and to the Northern Alliance to keep the Afghans in line.

There's some trend here with the success rate of their investments
but I can't quite put my finger on it ...

14. As Ross Perot said when he was running -- if the President had been
working for a company, he'd have been fired.

EVERYTHING Bushco has had a hand in has failed. Abysmally.
