Swastika spray-painted on interracial couple’s shed under investigation

Terre Haute police were investigating an incident in which a swastika was painted on a shed at the home of an interracial couple.

... The couple, who live south of Voorhees Street and west of First Street, say the swastika is the latest in a series of harassing incidents against them that they believe are racially motivated.

... The man said he has filed three other police reports since August 2007. In one incident, a dead rooster was placed in their yard, and in two other incidents, someone damaged their yard with tire tracks.

There have been other incidents they have not reported, including a dead fish being placed at their door. Also, someone used a BB gun to shoot at a window in their home, and there was pellet gun damage to the grandmother’s car.

... Theressa Bynum, president of the Terre Haute branch of the NAACP, ... noted that this is the third incident of swastika graffiti since May. The two other incidents occurred at a Thai restaurant on South Third Street and at the Allen Chapel AME Church at 218 Crawford St.
