Harry Reid says no need for Obama and McCain to rush back to Senate
Source: Sun Times

WASHINGTON--Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nv.) said Wednesday there is no need for Barack Obama and John McCain to rush back to Congress to work on the stalled bailout package and certainly no need to delay the first presidential debate, as McCain is urging. Obama is expected to call for the debate to go on as planned.

Reid said both men returning to their Senate jobs will "risk injecting presidential politics into this process. ....We need leadership, not a campaign photo op," Reid said. McCain is suspending his campaign--as of Thursday afternoon--until Congress works out a plan. Congress is resisting approving the $700 billion package sent by the White House.

DLC - Democratic Leadership Council, an organization of centrist Democrats.

As opposed to the DNC. Obama is DNC.

3. So McCain has no excuse
He's not even on any of the relevant senate committees.

I am glad he suspended his campaign, however--if he has a crisis in office, will he suspend his administration?

Brilliant. I'll bet there isn't an angle that the Democrats aren't looking at. A lot of posters on here often underestimate the astuteness and breadth of expertise of their representatives. I'm hopeful that whatever they do will be the shrewdest course.

I just wish they'd kick up a stink about the election fraud in the pipeline, and the voter suppression going right now.

8. keep emailing and calling them
Let them know what to resist. They need to hear from us. Keep the pressure strong. *'s plan has been weakened more each day this week. Give Congress the energy they need to push this back where it came from, the Neocon Asses.

19. Democrats need to load the bill with all the financial regulation they want ...

Serious, congressional Democrats need to load up this bill with lots of financial sector regulation. Now is when the fire is hot.

After 9/11 Republicans loaded up security bills with all kinds of crap and Democrats went along with it as they were unwilling to take the heat. Time to return the favor. If the bill goes down, then that these asshole companies go bankrupt. Extend new lines of government backed credit via companies that did NOT FAIL!!!

7. McCain has the most experience taking apart regulation, so he MUST be good at putting it together!
When I was in elementary school, I disassembled a broken pocket watch to see how it worked, fix it, and put it back together. Somewhere I still have a banana Koogle jar (peanut butter & jelly premixed - brand name) with those parts safely tucked away for me to get to one day (it was only like 40 years ago).

McCain has disassembled more regulations than he can count, and we know he has trouble with remembering how many things he has. No matter how many jars of regulation parts he has created, he is no more likely to put a new regulation in place than I am to ever get that pocket watch back together.

So, on topic, how can the McCain handlers possibly prepare him to answer the obvious question? The only answer is to lie, and blink constantly. Of course he is afraid.

As for rushing back to Congress to help fix the problem, how is that different from a taxidermist rushing to help a veterinarian with an operation?
