CBS: Bush has a 22% approval rating
Source: CBS News

The Democratic ticket of Barack Obama and Joe Biden leads Republicans John McCain and Sarah Palin by nine percentage points among registered voters -- higher than Obama’s lead last week, before Friday’s first presidential debate. Obama’s increased lead may be due to several factors: Republican President George W. Bush’s very low approval rating (22% in this poll, the lowest of his presidency), concerns about the financial crisis facing the country, and perceptions that Obama would better manage the economy than John McCain.

believe that extra-terrestrials have landed, assumed human form, and are serving in the US Congress...

34. At 22%, we're down to the percentage who just want to be nice
no matter what. This is the crowd that thinks, well he is president, so I have to say something nice about him.

They would approve of a cow for president if the cow was called a president.

14. Me! Me! I know someone who likes Bush!!!
Yeah I had a conversation with a Republican a couple of weeks ago and he stated that he LIKED Bush and he APPROVED of his performance!
He approved of the war, etc. I mean he was typical Repug, but he was actually quite nice, even though he was clearly totally whack.

So yeah.. believe it or not, there are some people who support BUSH!

his approval rating doesn't even hit the bottom of the charts.

What is the American citizenry gonna do when an intelligent person speaks to them about the problems facing our country? I am so glad I'm a Democrat at this moment in history.

Eight years of whitenoise has just about destroyed us.

Let's Roll.

17. Poll Shows Obama, for First Time, Has Significant Lead (NYTimes analysis)

By ADAM NAGOURNEY and MEGAN THEE
Published: October 1, 2008
With the first presidential debate completed and both candidates grappling with the turmoil on Wall Street in Washington, Senator Barack Obama is showing signs of gaining significant support among voters with less than five weeks left until Election Day, while Senator John McCain’s image has been damaged by his response to the economic meltdown.

A CBS News Poll released Wednesday that Mr. Obama’s favorability rating, at 48 percent, is the highest it has ever been in polls conducted by CBS and The New York Times. At the same time, the number of voters who hold an unfavorable view of Mr. McCain — 42 percent — is as high as it has been since the CBS News and The Times began asking the question about Mr. McCain in 1999, the first time he ran for president.

The CBS News poll showed that Mr. Obama has a 9 percentage-point lead over Mr. McCain – 49 percent to 40 percent. It marks the first time that Mr. Obama has held a statistically significant lead over Mr. McCain this year in polls conducted by CBS or joint polls by CBS and The New York Times. And several polls taken in battleground states released by other organizations on Tuesday suggested that Mr. Obama was building leads in states including Florida, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

23. There is no way on earth it is 22%.
I would love to meet one of these kool-aid drinkers and ask them exactly what they like about Shrub? If its his "moral stance on abortion" I would love to inform them that he didn't do shit to get rid of abortion when he had the chance. All he did was limit stem cell research, which is just window dressing to the abortion issue.

28. The effects are interesting
Obama gets good ratings because Bush's numbers are at 22%. That makes sense since McCain isn't much different from Bush, so essentially Obama is running against Bush (that's what it sounds like in the speeches).

But the Democratic-led Congress has had as low as 9% recently, the lowest rating ever of any of the organizations people were polled about, including HMOs. The majority said Congress hasn't done anything to improve life in America, doesn't think Congress will do so in the future, and thinks congressmen are mainly interested in their own careers.

Somehow that doesn't hurt Obama or the Democratic ticket in general. I have no idea why. Anybody?

44. Party boundaries
You know something's bad when both parties cooperate to kill it. Bush can veto, but we're lucky he can't create legislation that spends money himself. That is unless his next signing statement for some innocuous bill says "I interpret this to mean I can spend $700 billion to bail out my friends."

BTW, what is Obama's position on signing statements?
