Obama ad links McCain to Keating scandal
Source: AP

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Democrat Barack Obama, reacting to Republican charges about his links to a 1960s radical, fired back late Sunday with a Web video about John McCain's role in the Keating Five scandal from the early 1990s.

The short video, being e-mailed to millions of Obama supporters, summarizes a 13-minute Web "documentary" that the campaign plans to distribute Monday, spokesman Tommy Vietor said. He said McCain's involvement with convicted thrift owner Charles Keating "is a window into McCain's economic past, present and future."

The video release capped a day of complaints and warnings from Obama supporters. They said McCain was inviting a harsh examination of his past by having his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, repeatedly criticize Obama's association with Bill Ayers, a founder of the Vietnam-era radical group, the Weather Underground.

Palin said Obama sees America as so imperfect "that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country." She was referring to Ayers, whose strongest tie to Obama appears to be a 1995 meet-the-candidate event he hosted early in Obama's political career.

2. Sean Hannity is going all out
His "Hannity's America" program is doing a pretty thorough smear job, as much as saying outright that Obama is a radical black terrorist, and in one segment tells about Obama's closed ties to ACORN and how he taught the young ACORN "soldiers" to break into boardrooms and executive's homes to "force" Fannie Mae and Freddie Mack to lend money to undeserving black people, thereby causing the sub-prime mortgage crisis. They are REALLY saying stuff like this!
No wonder Obama is fighting back. He should make the deal with McCain, "if you stop lying about me, I'll stop telling the truth about you"..

grrr

9. another "hail mary"?
sure looks like it - this makes, what - the 4th time mccain has lurched the campaign in a different direction?

- the convention was going to be canceled, then it was going to be postponed, then it was shortened (sort of) by one day

- he started off with theme of "experience", then it was "peace, prosperity and progress", then he latches onto "change"

- he suspends his campaign (sort of but not really) until the bailout issue was resolved, but it wasn't resolved and he's back to campaigning

- he wasn't going to debate, then he didn't know if he was going to debate, then he did debate

- he doesn't want to look at the cause of the problems, but want to discuss the issues, then jerks his campaign into total negative mud throwing mode.

inbetween all of this he whines about the media focusing on Obama instead of him, and when the media does focus on him he whines that they are focusing on him.

this is worse than bush - bush just opens the engines to full throttle and drives over a cliff, mccain speeds up, slows down, slams on the brakes and jerks the wheel erratically.

10. Obama digs up past McCain scandal
Source: BBC News

In a new internet video being e-mailed to supporters, the Obama campaign launched its own attack on Mr McCain over his connections to tycoon Charles Keating, who was convicted of securities fraud after his savings and loan scheme collapsed.

Mr McCain was one of five senators - known as the Keating Five - to be investigated by a Senate ethics panel over their intervention with banking regulators on behalf of Keating.

He was found to be less involved with Keating than the other senators but was criticised for "poor judgement".

Mr McCain has himself described the affair as "the worst mistake of my life", and one which led him to sponsor legislation on campaign finance reform.

In an email to supporters, Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said: "The McCain campaign has tried to avoid talking about the scandal, but with so many parallels to the current crisis, McCain's Keating history is relevant and voters deserve to know the facts - and see for themselves the pattern of poor judgement by John McCain.''

11. Keating is two issues really
First, McCain is a crook.

Second, he didn't learn from the lesson and support regulation.
