Basque terrorists target foreign owned homes in south of France

In the latest attack an ancient working water mill owned by Sir John Muir Drinkwater, the former director of airports operator BAA, was burned to the ground in the tiny village of Lohitzun-Oyhercq near Lower Navarre.

On a charred window shutter the arsonists scrawled the message "The Basque country is not for sale."

The Basque country, which straddles the French-Spanish border, is passionate about protecting its language and cultural identity and there is popular anger at local people being priced out of the housing market by wealthy foreigners.
