McCain calls Obama a liar
Source: AP

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Republican John McCain is calling Democratic rival Barack Obama a liar.

The GOP presidential candidate told a campaign rally: "Sen. Obama has accused me of opposing regulation to avert this crisis. I guess he believes if a lie is big enough and repeated often enough it will be believed."

In some of the harshest language yet, McCain said the campaign comes down to a simple question: Who is the real Barack Obama?

McCain drew the loudest cheers when he said the Democrat has written two memoirs but "he's not exactly an open book."

1. ROFL! ROFL!

For emphasis:

The way this race has shaken out, I think it's clear, CLEAR, that the Democrats had an exceptionally talented pool of candidates this year. The Republicans are completely handcuffed when it comes to this election. There is nothing they can do that makes sense. Nothing!

Mcsame is a liar, a thief and a traitor to the people of this country. He should be tried, with all his deregulation pushing friends and executed for treason.

19. McCain's big DEREGULATION vote in 1999
In 1999, John McCain voted for passage of the Senate version of a bill that would eliminate current barriers erected by the 1933 Glass-Steagall Act and other laws that impede affiliations between banking, securities, insurance and other firms. The bill also would exempt small, non-urban banks from the 1977 Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), revise the Federal Home Loan Bank system and require that owners of automated teller machines (ATMs) provide notice on the ATM and on-screen of any charges imposed for the use of the terminal.

The bill was co-sponsored by PHIL GRAMM, McCain's CAMPAIGN ECONOMIC ADVISOR. You know, the guy that said Americans were whiners, we were having a mental recession.

Do these people have no shame?

4. Technically, McCain is right...not about the liar thing.
He has called for both deregulation AND regulation so he can conveniently claim he is for both. What a POS.

12. He cosponsored one bill, and then when it failed to make it out of committee
he didn't cosponsor it again the next time it was introduced--the Hagel bill. Attached his name to one bill that never saw the light of day, gave one speech, and NEVER MENTIONED IT AGAIN in the ensuing years, until a couple weeks ago. I'm certain he forgot all about it.

"...if a lie is big enough and repeated often enough it will be believed"

How's that been workin' for you so far, McCain? Guess it just hasn't work as well without the Republican noise machine carrying the water for you. So now you want to project that tactic onto Senator Obama? :eyes:

14. A man like McCain is not going to let a man like Obama beat him.
Face it he will say anything to win. I am willing to bet McCain thinks that this job is some thing he was born to do. No up-start like an Obama is going to take it from him. I am sure McCain thinks he is some thing special. And please God save us from Plain and the Bush's of this world. Must have been what Germany felt with Kaiser William in control like having 8 years of Bush. They just leave a mess every place. Just think we could end up with a Palin as the first woman Pres. I can not re-call 8 years turning out so bad for this country.

Just wondering if you're "party uber alles" or "facts rule".

30. It's called a "FACTOID..."
...saying something over and over until the listener(s) begin to believe it is true. A classic tactic of Republican propaganda that McCain indulges in with gusto.

For instance, McCain's comment after the VP debate, "How about that Sarah Palin, Heh!? Heh!?" implying she actually won the debate despite the slough of polling data that indicates otherwise.

The McCain campaign has amused me to no end, but it has no idea on how to win this election. Going with smear tactics at this point only helps him amongst his right-wing base, which is a dwindling group to begin with if one looks at the voter registration data.

The Silly Season is in full swing now. It began with the nomination of Palin, which can only be interpreted as a political stunt given her absurd lack of any qualification for an office above that of harem girl. Then the GOP convention where John McCain's campaign strategy became "I am the White Obama...Change! Change! Change!" And finally McCain's Airborne Rescue of Washington during the Bailout Negotiations that only muddied the situation and called McCain's own policies, temperament and character into question.

McCain has a woman on his ticket, but he is the Drama Queen.

32. McCain calls Obama a liar, faults his Chicago ties
Source: WOKV (Florida)

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- Behind in the polls, Republican John McCain on Monday called Democratic rival Barack Obama a liar as he leveled his harshest criticism yet, and said the campaign boils down to one basic question: Who is Obama really?

Adopting an aggressive tone on the eve of their second debate of the season, the Republican presidential candidate criticized Obama's ties to Chicago, his legislative record and even his pair of best-selling memoirs.

McCain, speaking about the financial crisis, took offense at Obama's accusation that McCain opposed regulation that would have prevented the credit crunch. "I guess he believes if a lie is big enough and repeated often enough it will be believed," McCain said.

The Arizona senator, a veteran of more than two decades in Congress, told his audience that while he is a known quantity the same cannot be said about Obama, who is midway through his first term as a senator from Illinois.

"You need to know who you're putting in the White House _ where the candidate came from and what he or she believes," McCain said. "And you need to know now, before it is time to choose."
