Survey: Evangelicals back McCain; other religious voters shift to Obama
Source: Dallas Morning News

In a significant shift in party support from four years ago, monthly churchgoers are backing Democrat Barack Obama in this year’s presidential race, according to a new poll.

Mr. Obama, who has tried to tap faith-based voters, has the support 60 percent of Americans who attend religious services once or twice a month, according to the survey for the nonpartisan group Faith in Public Life.

Young first-time voters are heavily supporting Mr. Obama. Among those voting for the first time, 71 percent favor the Illinois senator.

Younger Catholics more strongly support Mr. Obama, abortion rights and more active government than their elders. While older Catholics are split between the presidential candidates, those 18-35 favor Mr. Obama by 15 points (55 percent to 40 percent).

5. Per another article...it's Caribou Barbie

Ms. Palin is wildly popular with conservative evangelicals, but they're still lukewarm over John McCain, because of past disappointments, Republican miscues, Bush fatigue and especially the roiling economic crisis.

Mr. McCain faces a tough political climate to begin with, so any lack of enthusiasm that dampens voter turnout among core Republicans could make victory impossible.

"I don't sense the energy this time around," said the Rev. Mark Fuller of the Grove City Nazarene Church, south of Columbus. Ms. Palin's presence on the ticket, though, "at least has gotten some buy-in from the conservative wing of the Republican Party and many evangelicals," he said.

(snip)

Mr. Fuller said that on a scale of one to 10, "before Sarah Palin came in, the energy level was maybe five. She has brought it up to a seven or eight."

11. Last week
I saw a bumpersticker with McCain in tiny letters and Palin in big ones. As if to say, McCain until the old bastard croaks and then On To Glory!

8. If Obama was able to split off
non-evangels from the evangels, he has really accomplished something. This is huge. How many Christians here have been saying that the nutty, creation 'science', dominate politics right wing nuts did not represent them? This really separates the nuts from the spirtual, imho. Great Job President Obama!

12. So basically this says that evangelicals vote only on abortion rights
Since that's the only "Christian" issue on which McCain beats Obama. McSame is mean, foul-mouthed, adulterous, elitist, pro-war, pro-death, and pro-torture. Palin is mean, dim-witted, adulterous, pro-war, pro-death, pro-torture, and hopelessly corrupt. But they're both anti-choice, which I guess trumps everything else.

13. Posters over at Catholic Answers are strongly McCain
That is where the 20%ers are still hanging out. They are deluded over the abortion issue is the only thing to vote for and hence McCain has their vote. They would prefer someone more rabid but most will vote Republican (some will vote Barr, some will abstain).
