Coleman calls off negative ads
Source: Star Tribune

In the face of deepening U.S. financial catastrophe that is quickly spreading worldwide, U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman said Friday that he will pull all his negative advertising from television, print and radio and disavow any interest group ads that attack his opponents.

Appearing somber and red-eyed at a news conference this morning at his campaign headquarters, Coleman, who is Jewish, told reporters that after a day of fasting and prayer for Yom Kippur, a "time of fasting, soul-searching and refocusing on your life," he had decided to change the tone of his campaign.

"We're in a place that I don't think any of us of this generation, this time, have ever seen before," Coleman said. "At times like this, politics should not add to the negativity. It should lift people up with hope and a confident vision for the future."

2. I wonder if he lost all his money in the market? This does not seem
like him. He may also realize that all this negative stuff is going to come back and bite him and Mcgramps, as well as the repub party as a whole.

6. Yeah right
The negative campaigning backfired and he's trying to gracefully extracate himself from it.

I love how he will disavow and interest groups that attack Franken.
They'll keep doing it and he'll just say:
While I don't approve of it and I think it's wrong the question we should ask is "Is this all true."

He didn't look into his soul hard enough during the High Holidays.

12. Hmm...almost sounds like Norm doesn't want it any more...
Maybe it's going to be "hard work" (as Dubya says) in the old Senate from here on out?

Of course, I still don't trust him.

17. Agreed
The toughest thing I ever did in my many years, was not strangle this piece of shit the day I saw him sitting in Senator Wellstone's office. He and his kind have created the biggest disaster in the history of the country. Gary Keillor nailed it when he called him " Minnesota's shame" and a "hollow man in an empty suit". Paul was a great man with great compassion for people; Norm is all about Norm. Recruited by Rove himself. Blackmail maybe? Vote for Al.

21. Amen! This is JUST the way I feel about the thugs.
I am so angry over what they have done to my country, my kids and grandkids, I am apoplectic half the time. I always have to warn people "Don't get me started..."

14. Fuck! Coleman's Jewish!?
I only express alarm because I am, too, and I grow weary of all these neo-con landsmen. Still, glad to see a day of "repentance" appears to actually have done him some good...

Not buying it. He kicked "The Uptake and The Minnesota Independent out of his press conference today.
Something smells with suitgate and Norm is running scared.

22. Coleman is Jewish? This reminds me of the movie The Bird Cage
Edited on Sat Oct-11-08 10:10 AM by mountainvue
where Robin Williams and Nathan Lane try to explain their last name to the fiance's Republican Senator father and her mother.
Anyway, how is Al Franken doing against Coleman?

23. Senator Coleman is a little weasel
I remember how he kept campaigning and scoring cheap political points after the death of Senator Wellstone. Perhaps Franken should remind voters of the soulless and opportunistic way he exploited Senator Wellstone's death to win the election
