Rendell on McCain team: 'I think they're just stupid'
Source: CNN political ticker blogs

Posted: 05:00 PM ET
From CNN Senior Political Producer Sasha Johnson

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (CNN) – ... “I think the John McCain of 2000 would have been a very difficult candidate to beat. The John McCain of 2008 is much less difficult to beat,” Rendell told reporters after an Obama rally.

When asked if he thought there has been any racial undercurrent to the McCain-Palin ticket bringing up issues like Obama’s relationship with 1960s radical William Ayers, Rendell shook his head.

“Not particularly. I think they’re just stupid, they’re dumb, dumb,” Rendell said. “They’re all dumb when people are facing the challenges in their own lives that they’re facing no one wants to hear that stuff it’s just dumb.

"You know tell us what you want to do. If he’s got a plan for the mortgage bailout explain it to the American people that might get people’s interest … but don’t tell us about you know something that happened when Barack Obama was just 8 years of age, it’s just dumb.”

1. Yeah . . .
But they attract the "dumb" vote, which is not insignificant.

2. That's my governor talking!!!
He's loved and loathed here in the Keystone State. I don't always agree with him, but I know the man has guts. Also, I'm practically certain he can name a Supreme Court decision and likely reads several newspapers every day.

4. He Outran Lynn Swann in his 06 Re-election
From the Wiki:

As one of Hillary Clinton's staunchest supporters, Rendell has argued that most media outlets coverage of her campaign have been biased. On March 31st, 2008 he congratulated Fox News on what he considered to be the best campaign coverage. Addressing Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy, he said, "I think during this entire primary coverage, starting in Iowa and up to the present, Fox has done the fairest job, has remained the most objective of all the cable networks." Rendell continued, "You actually have done a very balanced job of reporting the news, and some of the other stations are just caught up with Senator Obama, who is a great guy, but Senator Obama can do no wrong, and Senator Clinton can do no right."

Rendell endorsed Senator Barack Obama in June 2008 and has made several campaign appearances on his behalf.

6. I can't wait for the post-analysis "why" books ...
I can't wait for the post-analysis "why" books ... that explain McCain's rationale for taking the path he has; a path that has essentially re-made McCain into something totally alien to people who knew him in 2000. And which has alienated him from moderates, independents and undecided voters.

If McCain deliberately chose this path, it reflects poor judgement and begs the question of why choose the Rovian path he detested less than a decade earlier?

If McCain did not choose this path, then it means he was not in charge of his own campaign, also reflecting badly on his image.

Is there any way McCain's choices can be seen in a positive way?

7. McCain wouldn't be the first guy to fall under the charm

of a beautiful (in his mind)woman. I don't think the 'Palin-McCain administration' was an accident. She was testing

the waters to see how much she can get away with. The soul-mates probably had a good laugh about it later, she belly

laughing and he snickering.

Notice first dude is not breathing down her neck in recent videos? hmmmm
