Obama leads in ND
Edited on Mon Oct-13-08 08:18 AM by JonLP24
Source: In_Forum News

Barack Obama is shown with an edge against John McCain in a North Dakota presidential race that has narrowed to a statistical tie, according to a new Forum poll.

The survey shows Obama squeaking past McCain, 45 percent to 43 percent, a lead that falls within the poll’s margin of error and therefore indicates a dead heat, according to political analysts.

Still up for grabs: undecided voters, comprising 12 percent.

“It’s a statistical tossup,” said Jim Danielson, co-director of the Public Affairs Institute at Minnesota State University Moorhead, which conducted the statewide telephone survey for The Forum. Pollsters contacted 606 likely North Dakota voters by telephone Oct. 6-8.

The poll indicates McCain’s once-comfortable lead in North Dakota has melted away as Obama is the widely favored choice among voters who consider the economy the most pressing issue.

4. It is significant
I believe this is the first known lead in ND for Obama, that's why I posted it.

5. I you consider that ND is a poster child for the GOP demographic.
White, affluent, greedy and racist then that stat may just be emblematic.

6. I've been waiting for a poll from Arizona
There hasn't been one since Sep. 29th. There is more registered independents then republicans and democrats. I believe it could be much closer since then considering the way things have been going.

10. WTF? Apparently you know nothing about ND
White, yes. Affluent, no. Greedy, no. Racist, there are some of those all across the US. Really, a bunch of small farmers are greedy and affluent?

15. Why would you say that people in ND are greedy...
That's a very condescending statement.

Perhaps they come from a tradition of self-reliance and are use to taking care of their own.

But you must remember something. Populism was energized in the prairie and swept back east and out to the west. It was William Jennings Bryan who energized populism from the state of Nebraska.

No, just because we perceive the GOP on the coasts as greedy, the people in the interior are far from greedy.

And remember this my friend, some of the largest contributions to Obama are coming from Wall Street. So Obama contributors are saintly and republican wall streeters are greedy. Hmmm. Interesting.

25. I spent 25 years there
and am the daughter of a farmer. I really don't know where you lived but that doesn't sound like the farmers I know.

I really wish people would stop broad-brushing everyone from a state. Or calling other people's homes "hellholes".

27. I'm sorry for your experience there
I've lived in a number of states over the last 10 years since leaving ND and I would imagine many of them would thus be considered "hellholes" by minorities. Some would have bigger minority populations than ND but I know they are less safe.

I still cannot tolerate DU'ers calling other states "hellholes" or broad-brushing all people of a state. It isn't very progressive. I know my experiences in visiting Mississippi and living in Kentucky and other states make me tempted to call them "steaming piles of shit" but I wouldn't say that knowing that my experiences are not everyone else's experiences there and not all people there are such assholes.

17. There is no GOP demographic that we should concede.
Please understand that a 50 state strategy works because we don't write anyone off. If W.F. Buckley's son can come out for Obama then anyone is redeemable.

like the people of ND work with terrorists. Stick to the facts please.

22. You're damn right it's significant. I live in SD, about
ten miles from the ND border and I frequently visit the nearest ND city (yes, there are, indeed, cities in North Dakota!). I don't expect Obama to take South Dakota. Hell, McSame could shoot babies on live teevee in SD and they'd still vote for the republican. They'll bitch about him, but they'll still vote for him.

But ND is a bit different, and I've been noticing the difference lately. Obama may not take ND, but he will come a lot closer than he will in SD.

McSame's ethanol policies have something to do with it, however. Many farmers and agricultural producers consider his stance on ethanol production and subsidies to be a stab in the back and are being more vocal about it. There are even agricultural groups that have formed in support of Obama.

8. Utah and Oklahoma.
I think they are both safe for Johnnyboy and Sarah, because they are where a lot of the stupid RW base reside. Nothing else is safe, not even their home states.

12. Well Sarah, at least we'll always have Alaska
On Nov. 5th, McCain will have a Casablanca moment, when he turns to Sarah and says

"Well, at least we'll always have Alaska."

13. This shows Obama was ahead in March, but...
Obama has fallen way behind since the conventions.

http://www.pollster.com/polls/nd/08-nd-pres-ge-mvo.php

As of 9/16, McCain was enjoting a double digit lead. However, that was before the stock market tanked.
